three things i want from the fall j.crew catalog

when the latest j.crew catalog landed in my mailbox this week, i was immediately drawn to its bright pink cover. but once i flipped it open, the cover wasn’t the only thing that sparked my interest. after a few mediocre seasons (IMHO), i must say, there are quite a few items in j.crew’s fall 2016 collection that i have dog-eared for future purchase. here are the top three things that caught my eye:

edie top || another day, another ruffle. surprise, surprise. i love the shape of this one and the subtle blue and white stripe. i can see it paired with crisp white denim and leather sandals now, or with a colorful high-waisted skirt  and pumps as we begin to transition to fall. though we won’t take our honeymoon until next summer, i’m already dreaming of the perfect honeymoon wardrobe. this summery shirt would be perfect for strolling the streets of quebec city!

speaking of ruffled tops, i may or may not have picked up this one in white.

denim tie-waist skirt || i mean, i haven’t owned a denim skirt in YEARS. about thirteen to be exact because i can recall the exact one i wore for college orientation. it was from abercrombie & fitch (weren’t they all in 2003?), a lighter wash that buttoned-up the front and hung ever so slightly on my hips. i wore that thing at least twice a week. sometimes i wish i had kept some of those a&f gems, if only for the nostalgia factor. anyway, since i work at a country club with a pretty strict no denim policy, i’ve fought the urge to jump back board the denim skirt trend (as it has made its triumphant return) mostly out of practicality. if my garments can’t pull double-duty, i usually skip them at checkout. but i’m really into the sophistication of the high-waisted pencil skirt silhouette, not to mention the tie-waist detail. i would wear it with a frill sleeved top and lace-up heels now, and pair it with it a cozy white sweater and suede booties next season.

mary jane glitter flats || no matter how old i get, i don’t think i’ll ever outgrow sparkle. if it glitters, i’m sold. which is why i am thoroughly obsessed with these shoes. they are truly the exclamation point to any outfit. i’d sport them with a simple teeboyfriend jeans on a sunday afternoon or pair them with a jumpsuit for a perfect date night look. i know i try to be as practical as possible when it comes to making sartorial selections but sometimes you just have to be frivolous. like my bio says -life’s too short to wear boring clothes. and these shoes are ANYTHING but boring.

in addition to the three pieces above, i’m also crushing hard on this sweater, this blouse, these jeans, this jumpsuit, and this hat. seriously guys, check out j.crew’s fall collection. it’s a good one!
