midi dresses for spring occasions

after recently seeing photos of graduates of my college alma mater turn up in my facebook newsfeed, i had the uncomfortable realization that my own college graduation was ELEVEN years ago (gulp). i can’t believe it’s already time for high school/college seniors to make the leap into the next chapter of their lives, not to mention the number of weddings and baby showers that seem to pop up once may rolls around. late spring and summer certainly hold many exciting celebrations -including S and my birthdays in june!

speaking of celebrations, on sunday, S and i had the pleasure of my showering our mommas in honor of their special day. due to scheduling, we celebrated my mother-in-love from afar but joined up with my parents for a casual dinner out that evening. since i had been in sweats all morning, i decided to dress up a little for our night out, opting for an old madewell dress i’ve actually worn to a couple weddings over the years. with a neutral black and olive color palette, it’s extremely versatile.  i’ve decided to style it here on the more casual side (adding in a denim jacket to cut the evening chill) with a pair of lace-up wedges, but i’ve definitely paired it with tights and black pumps for a dressier affair. its midi length makes it appropriate for a zillion occasions as it offers just the right amount of effortless femininity and a safeguard against any mishaps should you encounter an errant wind (insert wide-eyed smiley emoji here).

i’ve rounded up some of my favorite midi-length dresses (and a couple skirts that could be easily paired with a simple silk blouse) to wear to your next celebratory occasion. i hope you all had a great mother’s day!
