three outfits i can’t wait to wear

after picking up some goodies for the upcoming season over the labor day weekend, i’ve already begun outfit planning in my head. for me, it’s all about incorporating the new styles with existing pieces in my closet. not only does this strategy help me assess whether the new purchase will have staying power in my closet (the ability to pair it with multiple things is always the main goal), but equally as important, it aids in rekindling new appreciations for certain closet mainstays that may have lost their initial allure.

ANYWAY, here are three outfits i can’t wait to wear for fall.

striped shirt + wide leg khakis + knit beret + leather mules + red lip

all that’s missing is a baguette and a bull dog to complete this french girl-inspired look. in all honesty, 99% of these pieces are brand new, but i love how they all work together. let’s break it down, shall we? first of all, i have searched high and low for the perfect black and white striped shirt and i think i finally found my unicorn with this one. i am obsessed with the tufted shoulders and the blouson sleeves -these little details give this otherwise simple tee so much more character. it’ll be perfect tucked into my newest pair of high-waisted, wide-leg trousers (say that 3x fast!) and my leather mules, which you already know are my favorite shoe for fall. i’m no stranger to mixing black and brown, and this outfit is the perfect example of that. aside from the pop of red, all of these colors are neutrals and therefore compliment each other without being overtly matchy. speaking of that pop of color, nothing screams “french girl” to me more than a bold red lip (i swear by this shade). finally, i’ve recently noticed that berets are in for fall this year, so i picked up this cute grey one to try the trend out for myself. as a lover of most hats, i excited to incorporate the new style in with my wide-brimmed versions.

bell-sleeve top + skinny denim + pom pom flats + black tassel earrings

i don’t have many –what we used to call in college –“going out tops,” mostly because my husband and i are pretty casual, even on our date nights. but every so often a blouse comes along that is just too pretty to pass up. this bell-sleeve beauty caught my eye as soon as i saw it online and it proved to be ever better in person when i was able to stop by the j.crew store to try it on. though i’m more excited to pair it with skinny jeans for a special visit to one of our favorite restaurants, i know it’ll also come in handy as we near the holidays. for a dressier option, it would be perfect with a pair of wide-leg black trousers or even a pair of velvet or faux leather leggings for a christmas party or late fall/early winter wedding. regardless of whether i’ll dress it up or down, i know it’ll be perfectly accented by my newest pair of natalie borton tassel earrings. she recently released a black version of her popular “bridget” style and i scooped them up right away. after seeing how much wear i get out of my white and grey pairs, i know these black tassels will be worn constantly this fall and beyond. p.s. don’t forget to snag 10% off your first natalie borton purchase by using promo code SHAWNA10 at checkout.

grey ruffled sweater + white wide-leg cropped pants + black wide brimmed hat + suede booties

black belt + white tassel earrings

come october, a sweater + wide leg pants + boots/booties will definitely be my cold-weather uniform. after loving it in green, i snagged the ruffle-sleeve sweater in grey as well since i loved the silhouette and the feminine details (did i mention it was also on sale at the time?). i realize i may have a small problem with hoarding grey sweaters, but in my opinion grey is the perfect neutral to pair with everything from white denim to floral prints. though labor day may have come and gone, i believe white is a year-round color, so i’ll definitely be wearing these bone-colored wide-leg cropped pants right into winter. to make them feel less summery, i’ll opt for boots or booties over sandals and add neutral accessories like my new black belt and favorite white tassel earrings. now if only my beloved sweater weather would finally arrive…
