three sweater styles you should own

despite the fact that san diego is not experiencing the coveted “sweater weather” these days, i can’t stop thinking about (or buying) cozy knits. in my opinion, sweaters are like pairs of nice underwear -you can never really have too many. as a collector myself, i’ve narrowed it down to three styles i believe everyone should own:

light-weight with unique detailing || being a native san diegan, light-weight sweaters are our best friends. they’re appropriate nearly all year round — most notably in early summer when “june gloom” cloaks the coast in a heavy marine layer and in late fall when the season as most of the country knows it finally rolls in. they’re perfect for layering under denim jackets or over casual tees, with midi skirts and your favorite pair of jeans. to add a little character to my wardrobe -especially in the cooler months, i like to look for sweaters with some sort of unique detailing -a bow, an unexpected hem length, even a pom pom or a ruffle. the added character helps the knit feel fresh and playful in a season where clothes can oftentimes feel monotonous or boring. you may remember this sweater from this recent post. from the front, it’s a simple waffle-stitch sweater, but the cross-back detail gives it a little personality.

cashmere pullover in a neutral shade || this choice should come as no shock given my ode to cashmere last week, but i truly cannot recommend a sweater more. i legit wear one of my two cashmere crewnecks once a week once the temperatures dip and as noted in this post, a cozy cashmere sweater is always my go-to garment when dressing for a trip (airplanes are always freezing). aside from its softness, cashmere is a high-quality fabric, able to withstand lots of wear and tear. true, it is dry-clean only, but if you wear a base layer underneath, you can go longer between washes. for how often i wear mine, it made the most sense to snag them in neutral colors (grey & black) since they can be worn a zillion different ways paired with everything from skirts to joggers to jeans.

cozy cardigan || i like to think that cardigans are just wearable blankets. the cozy oversized ones especially. whether its worn over a simple tee and jeans or as an extra layer over pajamas on a chilly sunday morning, a cozy cardigan is a great player to have in your wardrobe -most notably in the cooler months. if an oversized style isn’t your speed, “coatigans” (a coat/cardigan hybrid) are a great alternative as they offer the same warmth, but with a bit more structure.

Love the monochromatic look you’re sporting! Each outfit is so cozy looking. And I LOVE the polka-dot sweater in your added favorites slides. You’ve got your look down and you sport it well.
    And as always, great photography.

Thank you, thank you! Isn’t that polka dot sweater a stunner? I have a feeling she’d look great in my closet, hehe.

      xoxo
