what’s on my fall shopping list

my mom and i are headed to the mall today for a little mother/daughter shopping trip! whenever i set aside a specific day to shop, i always try to make a list of things i’m looking for before i go. that way my time is spent most efficiently.

over the course of the past two months (since quitting my job), i’ve really taken the time to assess my closet for the lifestyle i’m living now. i’ve been feeling the itch to simplify, modernize, and even mature my current wardrobe and after cleaning out some things and getting inspired by a few of my fellow bloggers/friends, i have a better road map of which to follow to my new personal style. with that said, here are a few pieces i’ll be looking for as mom and i spend the day together:

simple white tee || i’ve been looking for the perfect relaxed white t-shirt for a while and after snagging this tee in the rust shade, i’ve decided it would be perfect in white, too! the best part is that it’s under $15.00 (p.s. i sized up to a medium for a more “boyfriend” fit).

leather booties || i’ve worn my brown leather booties to the ground so it’s definitely time for a new pair! with a wider foot, i’ve found that finding booties that are cute, comfortable, and versatile is not as easy as you’d think it would be, so i’m glad we’re heading to the mall so i can actually try on a few styles in person as opposed to blindly purchasing them online.  i’m tempted to get another pair of boss boots from everlane (i already own them in black), but they are quite the investment and i feel like i can definitely find a more affordable pair. as of now, i’m hoping to try-on these, these & these (love the buckles!).

oversized denim jacket || while i love my current denim jacket, i’ve been entertaining the idea of adding a longer, more oversized silhouette -especially as we move into cooler weather. madewell does denim so well, i’m eyeing this style in the capstone wash. though it doesn’t seem as versatile, i love this shearling lined version, too!

kimono cardigans/layering pieces || these additions may be the biggest shift in my personal aesthetic. i’ve never really been to embrace outerwear (mostly because i’ve lived in southern california my entire life) but i’m learning how effective a “third piece” can be in making an ensemble feel complete. so with that said, i have ditched my structured jackets (they felt a little juvenile to be honest) and am aiming to fill my closet with more kimomo cardigans and soft oversized knits to layer over camisoles and tees, jeans, and overalls. lucky for me, anthropologie has a TON of gorgeous options right now. natalie and jessann have convinced me that i need to try-on this quilted jacket for myself, and i also have my eye on this, this, this, this, this, this, this & this.

headband || again, thanks to natalie, i currently want to channel my inner blair waldorf and snag myself a headband or two. the ironic thing is that about two years ago i tossed about a handful of bow-adorned headbands i had been harboring since the mid-2000 in honor of the gossip girl fashionista. i swear, everything eventually comes back around. this time, however, instead of a bow or flower adorned head-piece, i love this knotted style.

nude oxfords || another natalie find, (it’s fun when your bestie has impeccable style and constantly inspires your own!), but these nude d’orsay oxford flats are at the top of my wish list. while they won’t be available at the mall to try-on, i’m confident that i will love them since they come so highly recommended.

fingers crossed we have good luck in locating a few of these items today! be sure to follow along on instagram as i’ll be sharing more of our shopping adventures in my stories.

I checked out your picks. I love each of them. Like you, I’m also looking for the perfect cardigan and the kimono styles you selected are quite tempting.

Cardigans are so great for fall/winter when the weather can go from hot to cold to hot again (at least in Southern California). We didn’t find any on this shopping trip but I’ll continue to be on the lookout!

Hi Zoey! Thank you 🙂 The flats are from Jenni Kayne, but they have an almost identical pair at J.Crew Factory right now! xo
