(p)leather together

so you may or may not be aware of this, but leather is IN for the fall season (and for you animal lovers, pretend like i just said “pleather” instead, k?). the september issue of instyle magazine told me so. although, i kind of feel as though leather has never not (yes, that’s a double negative, i’m aware) been in during the colder-weather seasons, but i suppose you can only reinvent the wheel so many times, right fashion higher ups?

regardless, i’m a big fan of the whole leather look. but obviously done with restraint and class. think less dominatrix and more olivia palermo.

palermo rockin’ leather pants like it ain’t no thing.

and while i’ll never be able to rock latex pants (because let’s be honest, i can’t afford the real thing) as well as miss P, i’d like to think that with the right top, i could, in the words of tim gunn, himself, “make it work.”

plus target is featuring these right now and i feel like it just might be a sign from the universe.

but despite my current leather lusting, i can’t help but think back to a specific episode of friends where dear sweet ross also tried his hand at the leather trend -also in the form of leather pants. and if you’re not familiar with said episode (season five, episode eleven “the one with all the resolutions”), well, i’m not sure how we’re friends, but judgement aside, bottom line is: ross’ fashion fearlessness did not end well.

Ross: They’re still not coming on, man! And the lotion and the powder have made a paste!
Joey: Really? Uh, what color is it?
Ross: What difference does that make?!
Joey: Well, I’m just… If the paste matches the pants, you can make yourself a pair of paste pants and she won’t know the difference!

so here’s hoping for a non-ross experience when i finally try my hand at (p)leather.

although paste pants do sound interesting.
