it’s friday, i’m in love || 12/19/14

we’re in the final countdown, y’all. t-minus 6 days until christmas and i’m not too proud to admit that i still have a few last minute items to purchase before all of the holiday shopping concludes (thank goodness for a relatively light agenda this weekend). S has also promised me a date with coach taylor and the dillon panthers (his first time watching the series!) of which i’m especially excited about. so on the heels of a very busy dallas weekend and a week that has offered me far too little zzz’s, i’m very much looking forward to finishing up my list of to-do’s and spending the rest of my free time snuggled up with my main squeeze introducing him to the goodness that is friday night lights.

clear eyes, full hearts, people.

here are the six things i’m crushing on this week!

one || by a landslide. there’s no doubt you’ve probably seen the latest installment of everyone’s favorite shell with shoes on (and one googley eye) roaming the interwebs, but in case you missed it, marcel the shell, or rather his creator jenny slate, was on conan this week and covered a portion of fleetwood mac’s “landslide.” and it was adorable.

marcel is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t he? (that’s rhetorical, obvi).

two || new opportunities. over the past couple weeks, i have had a couple of surprising emails land in my inbox. both have been from companies, who upon stumbling upon my site, have expressed interest in a future collaboration. for someone who started this little plot of internet real estate as a silly side hobby to write funny anecdotes and post blurry outfit selfies, this electronic correspondence has been met with added excitement. slowly but surely, my blogging career seems to be gaining a bit of momentum and for that, i’m equal parts thrilled, nervous, and proud. i can’t wait to show you what i’ve got cooked up in the coming weeks. as always, i’m so grateful for your readership, encouragement, and support.

three || pinter-wrist. looking for a last-minute trinket for someone special this holiday season (at this point, it might have to be a “happy new year!” gift)? i have a little suggestion for you. my younger sister turned 17 earlier this month and since it’s been a while since i was a teenager (thank goodness), i employed the assistance of her pinterest page for ideas on what to gift her for her 17th year. enter this adorable initial bracelet from etsy. i contacted the seller (who lives in cypress, greece!), had her create one with sissy’s initials, and shipped it to her doorstep so she would get it right away. i later received a photo of her wrist, modeling her new gift with the caption “i love it!!!!!” i’d say it was a hit. anyway, i kind of love it so much i might order one for myself.

four || i’ve got the blues. in true “wait, i’m not ready for that” fashion, retailers have already begun showing a few pieces for spring. (let me at least get a spray tan first, please). not that they’re reinventing the wheel or anything, it looks like nautical is big again for the upcoming season (which as a DG sister is very good news). as we were heading out through dillards at northpark mall last weekend in dallas, i was immediately smitten with this striped drop waist ruffle dress that was hanging front and center in the store’s polo ralph lauren display. lucky for my bank account (but unlucky for my wardrobe), they didn’t have my size in stock, but now seeing that it’s also currently available at macy’s, i’m hoping it will be a part of the after-christmas sales.

five || wrap it up. one of my favorite parts about christmas is wrapping up the gifts to put beneath the tree (or in our case, beside it). seriously, it’s so therapeutic. and while i love me some adorable holiday-themed paper (remember the days of robin wrap?), my preferred method of concealing gifts is by using regular brown packing paper. that way you can customize it to fit the personality of the gift recipient. i wrapped S’s gifts in brown paper and then proceeded to decorate them with words to describe him and my favorite aspects of our relationship. not only was i able to flex my artistic muscles for a time, i think he’ll get a kick out of reading all of my festive doodles when he opens them on christmas day. if you’re looking for a little wrapping inspiration, the gals at a beautiful mess blog created this list of unique ways to add a little pizazz to your presents this year. my personal favorite is the one with leftover sparkly garland. happy wrapping!

six || a very JEB christmas. while this isn’t technically my nephew’s first christmas (he’s almost 1 1/2), it is the first time he’s old enough to really appreciate all of the magic and wonder that are surrounded with this time of year. sistah has been documenting every last discovery and posting them on instagram and i have been swooning all week from her latest posts. if these photos aren’t little happys to get your weekend started off right, i don’t know what is.
