TGIF, y’all. what are you up to this weekend? aside from teaching class tomorrow morning, i’m happy to report these next two days are S and my oyster. which probably means we should get to all of the errands we’ve been putting off for the past few weeks when we didn’t have the time (or energy) to do them… hopefully we’ll squeeze in some relaxation time in between trips to home depot and trader joe’s, and maybe even binge watch a few more shows. the weather is supposed to be kind of dreary, so only more incentive to stay in cozies and lounge all day long. mmm 🙂

one || more milk for my serial. you guys, adnan is BACK. it was confirmed this week that the widely popular podcast, “serial” is getting a reboot with a spin-off featuring the main character of the series, adnan syed. entitled “undisclosed: the state vs. adnan syed,” the pod that debuts this monday (4/13) will “examine and explore the case in greater detail, from an investigatory perspective instead of a narrative one.” innnnteresting. new episodes will be released every two weeks. i can’t wait!

two || left or write. on tuesday, my friend R wrote a post on writing. she based it off of a message she had read by jen hatmaker, an author of several books who had posted on her personal blog. in reading through R’s post, i, too was very moved by jen’s words and advice on the writing process. in closing her own post, R listed her favorite part of jen’s entry, which naturally enough was also my favorite part:

“Do not become immobilized by good writing already out there. Stop that this instant. Literature is not an exercise in scarcity. The world always needs good writing. There is room for you. Don’t be intimidated by successful writers; be inspired by them. Every good writer wrote his or her first piece at one point. Do your time; there is space for you at the party.”

i’m leaving it here as a reminder to push through the fear and feelings of inadequacy and doubt. there is room for me. here and out there, too.

p.s. another post i loved about writing this week.

three || 30 & 2. good news, if you collapse in my presence, i am now re-certified to revive you. a number of my fellow colleagues and i were trained this week in an effort to renew our CPR/AED certification. every two years, a representative comes out to the club to reacquaint us with the proper processes in CPR/AED training. he even brings props! of course, that was the day i decided to wear a skirt and my 3.5″ stack-heeled sandals, but you just never know when you’re going to be asked to step up, so perhaps my improper attire was a good “real life” situation. anyway, we learned about 30 & 2 (30 compressions for every two breaths) and how the AED machine works, how to help both an adult and infant if they’re choking, and NEW this year, how to properly use a fire extinguisher as well (PASS –pull the pin, aim the hose, spray the potion, and sweep the area). it was all very informative and i was grateful for the training. hopefully i don’t have to use any of it any time soon, but if the situation calls for it, at least now i’m properly equipped (you’re welcome, S).

i’m so looking for that plastic lobster on my next visit!

five || so fresh and so clean, clean. i don’t do it all the time, but every so often i treat myself to a professional house cleaning and i’m always glad i did. this week was one of those times. of course, it then becomes a contest on how long i can keep my house as spotless as it was in that fleeting moment, but hey, i try to enjoy as much as i can while it lasts. and swiffer like a maniac in the interim.

six || ace of base. america’s favorite past time is BACK! and while baseball isn’t necessarily my favorite sport to watch on tv, i will say S and i got pretty into last year’s world series (thanks mostly to you, madbum). if i had my choice, i’d rather catch a game in person, which is exactly what S and i plan to do over the course of the summer. i mean, what’s more americana than baseball, a soft pretzel, and a perfect summer night? and dare i say it, we might even be good this year?

on that note, i hope you have a great weekend. whatever you do, enjoy every minute of it.

Excellent post. You certainly have varied interests. I enjoy learning about new things and you never fail to post something that I have to google (which gives me a 20 word explanation). What an education I’m receiving from your posts!!! Enjoy your baseball games…. batter up!
