with more mothers to love on this year, yesterday’s mother’s day celebrations were particularly special this year. in the morning, S and i drove up to orange county to spend time with his mom, dad, and grandma. we shared breakfast and stories and watched a marathon of rehab addict on hgtv. we didn’t brave brunch crowds or battle shopping centers, we simply sat and relished in each other’s company. it was low-key and lovely. and i felt very grateful to be able to celebrate the two women credited in raising the incredible man i’m lucky enough to call mine.
following our visit up north, we drove back home to rest a bit before heading over to my mom’s house for mother’s day part deux. we ordered takeout from urban plates and caught up on life and ended the evening with a photo shoot at sunset in downtown encinitas.
if you haven’t figured this out already, most occasions spent with my momma usually do result in some sort of photo shoot. so when we had told her we would do whatever she wanted to do in honor of her special day, as expected, she replied with “taking pictures of you two” first in the backyard, and then at moonlight beach at sunset.
naturally, what momma wants, momma gets.
anyway, it was a beautiful day honoring the best moms in the world. it’s a joy and privilege to celebrate them on mother’s day,
and the other 364 days of the year, too.3
