holiday looks 3 & 4

happy tuesday! it’s day two of my “no stressing holiday dressing” series and today’s looks are styled for time with your girls. whether it’s a reunion brunch with college friends in town for the holidays or your annual girl’s gift exchange, these outfits are meant to be fun, flirty and totally instagram worthy (you know there’ll be a group shot getting posted at some point!).

after styling outfits for my “don’t get mad, get plaid” series, i realized how versatile this festive pattern can be. for this brunch-worthy look, i swapped out tights and heels in favor of my favorite mid-calf leather boots and a lace sleeve sweater to add a little visual interest on top. a cherry red coat to wear to and from the restaurant and my floating arrow necklace bring everything together with a pop of color and hint of metallic. voila, mimosa-drinking chic.

as far as i’m concerned december is all about the sparkle (and about that bass, about that bass, about that bass, no treble), so when putting together an outfit this time of year, i’m constantly assessing whether or not i can squeeze a little sequin action in somewhere.

every christmas season, a few of my close girlfriends and i would gather at someone’s home to do our annual gift exchange. each year had a theme -one year it was “accessories,” (that’s the year i scored my beloved oversized red clutch), the next, “kitchen tools” (i received an anthropologie apron that’s almost cute enough to wear out of the house). though it was a fairly casual affair, i always loved forgoing jeans in exchange for something a little more festive. though the busyness of life and kids has curtailed our annual tradition in recent years, i still think fondly of our former ritual and used the occasion as inspiration for styling the perfect gift exchange look.

outfit details:

sequin top | j.crew (similar)
skirt | express (similar)
d’orsay flats | j.crew factory (similar)
pink lip | maybelline “fuchsia fever”
