four denim colors you should own

while there’s nothing like the perfect pair of classic wash jeans, i’ve learned that the world of denim doesn’t stop at blue. in fact, there’s a rainbow of colors just waiting to be paired with your favorite white tee or classic chambray. below are my favorite four washes of denim with a styling suggestion and tips on where to shop for each one. it shouldn’t come as a shock that a majority of my denim wardrobe is compliments of madewell. because like the company name implies, their denim is definitely made well.

medium wash blue denim

as classic as it gets. the medium wash is perfect for pairing with both light (whites & pastels) and dark fabrics (blacks & navys) and pops when juxtaposed with camel accessories (see above). for an easy spring look, cuff your jeans and pair them with a playful flat or suede bootie.

my pick: gap 1969 always skinny jeans in medium wash

other options: madewell high-riser skinny skinny jean in dayton wash, american eagle outfitters hi-rise jegging in storm dark, j.crew toothpick japanese selvedge jean in hulton wash

grey denim

hands-down, my most worn pair of jeans. this particular pair from madewell is super soft and offers just the right amount of stretch. since grey is a neutral, it pairs well with just about anything. i loved styling it with plaid over the holidays and look forward to pairing it with crisp white blouses as we transition to the warmer months.

my pick: madewell high-riser skinny skinny jean in dusty wash

other options: j.crew lookout high-rise jean in medium grey, old navy mid-rise rockstar jeans, banana republic gray high-waist skinny ankle jean

black denim

to me, black jeans are the most sophisticated of the four. they can easily be dressed up for an evening out, especially when paired with something sparkly. my favorite way to style them is with a monochromatic look -paired with a black frilly sleeve blouse, black d’orsay flats, and a bold red lip. similar to the grey pair above, this particular pair has a higher-rise which is perfect if you’re looking to lengthen the look of your inseam.

my pick: madewell high-riser skinny skinny jean in lunar wash

other options: bdg seamed high-rise jeans, lou & grey downright skinny jeans, american eagle outfitters hi-rise jegging

(see full post here)

white denim

forget that “no white after labor day” rule, white denim is perfectly acceptable all year long. if a candidan tuxedo isn’t quite your speed, try pairing your favorite chambray top with a pair of white denim instead. add gold jewelry and a simple metallic sandal and you’ve got the perfect look for spring. when it comes to white jeans, i tend to favor a looser style since white leaves very little to the imagination. i picked up this slim boyfriend cut from madewell a couple of summers ago so it’s not longer available, but i’ve linked great alternatives below.

my pick: slim boyfriend in pure white (no longer available)

other options: mossimo mid-rise boyfriend crop jeans, loft wide leg trouser jeans, kut from the kloth catherine boyfriend jeans

which wash/color is your favorite to wear? are you a fan of the high-rise trend? i’d love to hear!

I would wear denim every day if I could! Perhaps one day 🙂 Love you, Auntie! xo
