since i spend half of my fourth of july working at our club’s annual family picnic, i always make a big deal about my outfit. because if you have to work on america’s birthday, you should at least look (and feel) cute, right? this year i tried to think out of the box. though it looks like a skirt, the navy and red striped piece is actually a spaghetti strap sundress that i simply layered under a chambray crop top. normally i throw a sweater on over the dress to make it work-appropriate, but it was fairly warm so the cropped shirt was a perfect alternative. plus the point at which the top hit the a-line shape of the dress totally gave the illusion that it was two pieces.
since i knew i would be standing for the duration of my four-hour shift, i wanted to be comfortable so i opted for my favorite cowboy boots which also kept my feet dry in the damp grass. and since the wind tends to pick up being so close to the water, i knew a hat was a must to keep my hair out of my face (and to shield me from the sun). a natalie borton necklace finished off the look. it might have been one of my favorite fourth of july outfits yet!
