it’s crazy to think that we’re already halfway through summer (technically speaking) and that stores will soon start displaying their fall collections (too soon, guys, too soon). but i suppose the fashion industry’s “movin’ on and movin’ up” philosophy is our gain because stores are having some seriously awesome sales right now to make room for new designs. one said store is our beloved madewell who is offering a 30% discount on some of their swoon-worthy summer styles (use code WANTLIST). i’ve had my eye on this and this for a while now so this might be the universe’s way of telling me it’s finally time to make them mine. i’ve offered my top picks below, along with a suggestion on how i’d style them:
striped ruffle romper || as if i need another romper in my life (answer: yes, i always need a romper in my life). perfect for day or play, dress it up with some stacked wooden heels and cross body bag, or style it for a low key weekend with lace-up sandals and a giant straw hat.
plaid off-the-shoulder dress || who says plaid is just for fall? if you don’t own something off-the-shoulder, it’s high time you partake in the trend. it’s such a fun and fresh way to show a little of your sun-kissed skin (without letting it all hang out). this would be a great transitional piece -one to wear now with open toe slides and later with even tights and leather booties.
silk island button-front skirt (comes in navy & blush) || silk in summer might be counterintuitive, but it’s since it’s so light-weight, it actually makes sense to wear it when the temperatures heat up. i love button detail, the fact that it has pockets, and the elastic waistband (because comfort). i would pair the navy with a striped tank and gold jewelry, while the blush version would look adorable with a sleeveless chambray.
pagoda crop shirt in stripe || i can never get enough sleeveless tops in summertime. for me, they can pull double duty -keeping me cool at the office and on the weekend. i love the subtle stripe of this one and the adorable raw-edged pleated hem at the back. it would be perfect with a cotton pencil skirt and open-toed heels at work and with a high-waisted denim skirt and lace-up flats on a weekend getaway.
whisper cotton v-neck pocket tee || hands down, my favorite t-shirt. i have it in white, black & grey. now’s a great time to stock up on what i believe to be the best slightly-slouchy-but-not messy v-neck tee. dress it up under a blazer or down with your favorite pair of jeans.
wide leg crop jeans in pure white || i like these a (cu)lotte. to me, summer = white denim. i love this new take on the standard white jean. the crop is a big trend this season -as is the wider leg. these pants combine the two to create the perfect summer pant. it’s a perfect canvas to showcase a patterned blouse or for a more classic (and parisian) look, i love the idea of pairing it with a black & white striped tee and red lace-up flats (red lip optional).
the pocket jean vest || much like a denim jacket, a denim vest is a great staple for any wardrobe. i have one in a darker wash but love the idea of adding a lighter-washed version to my collection. i love throwing a vest over a striped dress for an extra layer or with a white tee and printed skirt for a pop of denim.
the thea crisscross sandal in spotdot || i recently purchased this print in a d’orsay flat, but i love the idea of having an open-toed alternative. i’m obsessed with the polka dot pattern (natch) and the fact that it’s black and white which makes it super versatile. how cute would they look with this romper?
the amalfi jacquard tote bag || i don’t know about you, but i can never have enough good totes in my life. they’re perfect for bringing to the beach or stashing gym clothes in when you’re heading straight to a studio barre class from the office. i love the adorable tassel detail and the fact that it comes in navy for those neutral-lovers and crimson for those who love a little pop of color. wear either with a white dress for a perfect all-american look.
wispstripe square scarf || i’m not much of a scarf-wearer in the summer, but for those days when the sun insists on hiding behind the marine layer at the coast, this cute pom pom number would be perfect to throw on over a tank and denim shorts for a little extra warmth. it would also be cute draped over a chambray dress or tied on a giant leather tote (like elle woods did in legally blonde).
the sale goes through monday, july 11th, so treat yoself!
