do you ever stumble upon something buried in the back of your closet and think, “hey, i totally forgot i had you!” well it happened to me this weekend when i was looking for a pair of jeans to wear with my ruffled top. since i paired this top with a light-wash skinny jean the last time i wore it, i was looking to mix it up with a different silhouette. and then i remembered this pair of dark flares i bought at the height of the flare explosion last fall. since i have to wear them with a heeled shoe, they aren’t necessarily the first pair of jeans i turn to on the weekend (heel-wearing is usually reserved exclusively for monday-friday). but when i put them on and remembered how long and lean they make my legs look, i quickly reconsidered.

on saturday, S and i treated my parents to dinner out and one of our favorite local spots. after the atrocious heat wave we had earlier in the week, it was refreshing to be able to wear jeans again without simultaneously sweating my you know what off. i probably broke some sort of fashion rules by taking my espadrille wedges out for a spin after labor day, but i recently did a big purge of my heel collection (i got rid of anything that was simply too painful to wear for more than an hour at a time. #thisis31) and these were one of the only pairs that survived.
we stumbled upon this perfect blush-colored wall as we were en route to dinner. i actually made my parents pull over so S and i could run out and snap a few photos of my outfit before we arrived. the life of living with a fashion blogger, right? anyway, the wall was the perfect contrast to my new ruffled top (yes, another from the current j.crew collection) while also almost an exact match to my crossbody bag.
