packing for a bachelorette spa day

as you may have already deduced, i’m not the typical bride. so though it’s totally a rite of passage, the thought of having a “typical” bachelorette party kind of made me cringe. but then one of my best girls told me to think of it less as a bachelorette party (complete with penis straws and bedazzled “bride” sashes) and more like one long coffee date with some of my favorite people and i started to come around to the idea. i especially came around to the idea when another friend suggested we just take the party to the spa. because lord knows this gal loves a spa day. so that’s what we’re doing. this weekend eight of my best gals and i are going the the omni la costa for a day of pampering, plush-robe wearing, and overall pre-wedding shenanigans. this may be the tamest bachelorette party of all time, and that’s exactly how i want it.

before the weekend officially kicks-off (two of my best friends are flying in from other states to join in on all the fun), i thought it might be fun to share what’s coming with me to the spa. since we’re not staying overnight, it was easy to pack up everything inside my monogrammed tote (more on that below):

bathing suit (similar top & bottom) || true story, i only own two bathing suits -two tops and two bottoms that can be mixed and matched to create four different looks. i opted for the white ruffle-trimmed top and blue high-waisted bottoms since i figured it covered both bases -white for bridal and blue for “something borrowed and blue.” but really i chose it because it’s comfortable and covers up all my lady bits.

cover-up || though most of the day will be spent snuggled beneath a white robe, i wanted to wear something to the spa that was light-weight and easy to get in an out of. this one-shouldered dress from madewell’s summer collection fit the bill. plus it matched my inadvertent blue and white color scheme.

sun hat (similar)|| i like big hats and i cannot lie. especially when they keep my face out of the sun and cover up dirty hair.  this one also from madewell is the gift that keeps on giving and is perfect for a day by the pool.

sandals (similar) || confession: i hate dirty feet. so while i’m walking around the grounds of the spa, i like to have a comfy pair of sandals with me. bonus points for the extra sparkle, too.

sunscreen || i slather on elta md in spf 40 on my face every. single. day. it’s the best non-greasy sunscreen i’ve ever tried. it also comes in a sport version in spf 30 for the body so i’ll be sure to give myself a hearty coating before setting out to catch some rays. in all honesty, i’ll probably be perched up under an umbrella to avoid the sun altogether (since i have two colors -pale and burnt) but you can never be too cautious when it comes to skincare since those UV’s are awfully sneaky.

book (or nook) || i’m ashamed to admit that the only time i actually read anything other than a gossip magazine at the nail salon is when i’m a) on an airplane or b) by the pool. so i made sure to download a new book onto my nook before the weekend. given that i love everything else she’s written, i chose liane moriarty’s newest novel, truly, madly guilty. i can’t wait to dive in.

party outfit (j.crew top & similar skirt) || if you can’t wear a tutu for your bachelorette weekend, then really, when can you? i went with an outfit that not only makes me feel flirty and feminine but is also extremely comfortable. no bandage dresses and sky-high stilettos for this girl… which brings me to the shoe choice.

comfortable shoes || there may or may not be wine involved for the post-spa activities which means for this light-weight, comfortable shoes are a must. wedges are also my go-to when i want a little extra height but also want to avoid a twisted ankle.

natalie borton necklace (same style in blush) & clutch || an outfit wouldn’t be an outfit without the proper accessories. i’ll keep mine simple with one of my favorite tassel necklaces by natalie borton and a simple black clutch gifted to me last year by hobo. it’s the perfect size to carry just the essentials -my phone, credit card and ID, and lip gloss.

carry-all tote || to transport all of these goodies to the spa, i’ll be using my monogrammed tote S got my for my birthday from land’s end. albeit a tad bit premature, i’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty fun to have something sporting my NEW initials. this tote is the perfect size to carry everything, has two internal pockets to secure smaller items (like my unmentionables), and the best part -has a zipper closure to ensure everything stays put to and from the spa.
