holiday hair with irresistible me

now that thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s officially the holiday season and i for one intend on really embracing it this year. S and i are even going to get a REAL tree this weekend! amidst shopping for gifts, decorating our home with poinsettias and pine, and of course, making a batch of S’s grandmother’s famous lemon sugar cookies, we’re also bound to attend a holiday party or two over the next few weeks leading up to the biggest party of all –our wedding! so i’ve already begun mapping out my holiday outfits and the hairstyles i’ll sport to go along with them. thankfully my sapphire 8-in-1 curling wand from irresistible me arrived at just the right time and i’m excited to share two looks that’ll be perfect for getting into the holiday spirit this year:

soft romantic waves

i’d say my signature hairstyle involves tighter ringlet-style curls so it was fun to create softer, more romantic waves using the 32mm attachment. i used the wand as i normally do, dividing my hair into 1-1 1/2″ inch sections and wrapping the hair around the wand starting at the root until i had finished my entire head (psst, here’s my tutorial on how i achieve my signature mermaid waves). i then ran my fingers through my hair to loosen up the curls and smoothed down any fly-aways with spritz of hairspray. to ensure a tighter hold, i always use a curl-activating shampoo and conditioner as well as a curl building serum. i find the curls hold their shape better when you start at the source as opposed to shellacking your head in hairspray 🙂 i will note one thing -in this style, the curls are a bit looser and therefore they will fall if over-manipulated. after the initial styling, try your best at avoiding touching your hair (easier said than done, i know). if you have a few minutes before your event, you can always go back and touch up a few strands as needed.

while i don’t usually wear accessories in my hair, i think this style could also look really festive with a sparkly brooch or barrette affixed right above the ear.

high pony with a twist

i have been sporting a high pony for a majority of my life -from ballet recitals to cheer competitions, the higher the hair, the better (and the closer to God, of course). now that i’m older, i’m finding myself gravitating back to the hairstyle of my youth. to create this particular style, i used the 25/13 mm attachment to create tighter waves. once i finished curling, i flipped over my head and gingerly gathered my hair (being careful to not disrupt the curls) to create an “i dream of jeannie”-esque sky high pony tail. from there, i wrapped a hair tie around three times to ensure a tight fit. i finished off the look with a piece of black ruffled ribbon i found in my craft closet. it was the perfect addition to make this look feel “holiday.” i totally felt like a christmas present (in a good way)!
