packing for a mini moon

as i mentioned before, we won’t be taking our real honeymoon until july (and it’s official, we booked it last month!) but we of course wanted to take a little time to relax and enjoy our first days as husband and wife. so we booked what we’re lovingly referring to as our “mini moon” at rancho bernardo inn, a gorgeous resort just minutes away from our wedding venue.

with the weather being so touch and go for the next few weeks (apparently el nino is back?), this getaway won’t be all swimsuits and sundresses. instead, i plan on bringing along some of my favorite winter pieces including sweaters and my latest obsession -these jeans. i’m probably overpacking for just three days away but c’est la vie, it’s my mini moon and i’d like to have options. here’s a peek into my travel bag:

loungewear || aside from a few meals at some of the resort’s on-site restaurants and our visit to the spa for a couples massage, my plan is to stay in pajamas the entire duration of our stay. so that means packing multiple pairs of lounge pants and some soft tees to go with them. of note: i recently discovered american eagle’s aerie line and cannot speak more highly of their comfort tees and joggers. better still, they are almost always having a sale so i was able to snag a few of these, these, and this pair of flannel joggers for less than $50! (p.s. their tops run on the smaller side so i’d recommend sizing up one size for a more looser fit).

active wear outfit || it’s highly unlikely but we may get a wild hair and want to go for a walk or two around the property during our stay. if that happens, i wanted to be sure i took along at least one “active wear” outfit. after seeing these leggings on my fellow barre babes for years, i finally got myself a pair and all i can say is, they were more than worth the wait. they come in a rainbow of colors and their high-waisted cut keeps you locked and loaded for your workout. to complete the ensemble, i tucked in my favorite lululemon tank, a cozy long-sleeve layering tee, and light-weight sneakers.

wide-leg cropped jeans || of course these jeans are coming with me! i mean, i can’t stop wearing them. in all seriousness, they’re so dang comfortable, i know i can wear them out to dinner or while we’re just lounging around our room. plus the cropped fit will ensure the hem doesn’t get damp in the rain. i plan on pairing them with a ruffle sweater and lace-up flats for one of the days and possibly with my black cashmere sweater (basically recreating this outfit) for another occasion.

wide-leg black pants || another no-brainer for a weekend away. in all actuality, these will already be with me as i plan on wearing them with this metallic cami for our rehearsal/rehearsal dinner so it made sense to have a second option for a dinner-appropriate outfit.

cozy sweaters || as i mentioned above, the forecast doesn’t look too promising for our mini vacation, so i’m stocking up on cozy knits to keep me both warm and stylish. as you may have already noticed i’m sticking with a black, white, grey, and denim color palette to make putting together outfits a breeze.

ruffled blouse || every girl deserves to have a top that makes her feel flirty and feminine and this top does just that. for that reason alone, it’s coming with me! plus it pairs perfectly with both my jeans and black pants.

straw hat || the purpose of this is hat is really simple -hats hide dirty hair.

bathing suit || clearly in january, we don’t plan on laying out, but the hotel does have some jacuzzi tubs we could take advantage of!

cloth clutch || i recently re-discovered this closet gem and i’ve fallen for it all over again. it’s the perfect size (it holds my entire hobo wallet!) and the perfect accent to any outfit. it’ll be perfect for an evening out when i don’t want to lug my entire purse.

natalie borton necklaces || because an outfit never feels fully complete without one! i’m bringing along three different styles.

heidi (same in grey) || emerson (paige is similar!) || sloan (sold out)

lace-up shoes || truth be told, these espadrilles will be worn with my rehearsal dinner ensemble and the flats are actually my wedding shoes -so including them in my mini moon wardrobe just made sense. when choosing what shoes i’d wear on my special day, i knew three things -1) i wanted to be comfortable (hence the fact that they’re flats), 2) i wanted something metallic, and 3) and maybe most important -i wanted to a shoe that i knew i would legitimately wear again. these babies ultimately fit the bill!

now that i’m all packed and ready, all that’s left is to get married! welcome to wedding week, y’all!
