adventures with shawna leeann || an afternoon in north park

slowly but surely we continue to cross items off of our adventure list! (psst -read about our adventures at the leucadia farmer’s market, in la jolla, and at the liberty public market).

our latest weekend excursion took us to the quirky city of north park, just north of downtown san diego. from its mural-covered walls to its local breweries and coffee shops, it’s the perfect neighborhood to explore on foot with so many sights and scenes to take in.

since we didn’t get into north park until later in the afternoon (and in the heat of the day), we were definitely ready for an iced beverage upon arrival. we ducked into dark horse coffee roasters and ordered two cold brews on nitro. if you’ve never experienced coffee this way, it’s definitely worth a try. basically the coffee is infused with nitrogen which results in a sweeter, crisper, slightly carbonated taste. i added a little almond milk to mine, but it was sweet enough to forgo my usual pack of natural sweetener.

psst… other coffee options include communal coffee and holsem coffee which both offer delicious drinks and even better atmospheres.

hydrated and caffeinated, we walked across the street to pigment, a store i’ve heard about for months -and home to both the instagram-famous pink ombre-painted wall and succulent display. this shop is what i can only describe as the lovechild of anthropologie and your favorite etsy store. it is truly a feast for the eyes with its bright lighting and pastel-adorned shelves. there are even live plants sprinkled about the displays providing an organic feel, as though you may have actually just stepped inside your best friend’s incredibly chic home. as we meandered through the store, i kept wishing we had something similar nearby. pigment is that place you’d run to if you needed to find a bridal shower/baby shower/birthday/hostess gift in a pinch.

our last stop on our brief exploration of the north park neighborhood was of course the pink wall. in reality it’s more of a pink strip of a wall (it’s much narrower in person) than a full mural, but regardless, its vibrant rose hues make for the PERFECT backdrop for a photo shoot and i can’t wait to share the images we shot for a special post i have planned for later in the week (it might be my new favorite!).

i wish i could go into further detail of other places of interest we explored while in the eclectic town, but in all reality, we made the 45-minute drive almost exclusively for the pink and succulent walls. for those reasons, this bearded cutie deserves all the husband awards.

Another fun post!! The pictures take me right into your writing. I really enjoyed the photos of Pigment. It looks like a great little shop, and there’s something to look at (or buy) tucked in every spot. (I especially love the white plant pots that sit on the low-profile, minimalist wood stands. I’m loving your blog!!! Love to you both.
