day trip to julian

so remember when i told you we had grand plans to go apple picking in julian in the middle of october? turns out apple picking season doesn’t last that long. womp womp. apparently the season for snagging apples is about a month -from the end of august to the end of september. duly noted for next year.

but we didn’t let the absence of apples put a damper on our original plans to find fall in julian -a quaint town about an hour outside of san diego. so my parents, S and i took a morning road trip to the mountains for some changing leaves and fresh apple pie instead.

while our hopes for finding the quintessential crisp autumn weather were a bit thwarted by the resurgence of warm weather (ugh), that didn’t stop me from putting my best fall style foot forward -starting by wearing this beret a second time. since i knew we’d probably be traipsing off the beaten path to get the perfect shot, i decided to wear my hunter rain boots since they’re made to withstand “the elements.” ha! with them i paired my favorite denim shorts (again, the forecasted weather was in the 80’s), a simple white tee, and my military bell-sleeved jacket from last season. to compliment the green of the jacket, i accessorized with my olive-colored tassel necklace.

after a stroll down main street and a pit stop for apple pie, we stopped by the orfila winery on our way home for a few photos amongst the grape vines. unfortunately it was the heat of the day by the time we arrived, otherwise we may have stayed for some afternoon wine tasting. next time!

while our trip to julian didn’t go as originally planned, it turned out to be a fun and festive morning and definitely helped put me into the fall spirit.

Fabulous, upbeat blog today. Looks like you have loads of fun. (We also learned apple picking season is short… but we were right on time for picking pears!)
Love the outfit… perfect for beating the heat.
Kudos to Mr for incredible photography.

Despite not getting to pick apples, we had a great time. We’ll just have to remember to get out to Julian in August/September next year. I’ll pass along your kudos 😉 Love you!
