in san diego, our version of “winter” would make any mid-westerner or east coaster laugh. i’ve lived here my whole life and never needed anything heavier than a denim or leather jacket to keep me warm from christmas through easter. so i tend to be pretty picky with which pieces of outerwear i invest in for the sheer fact that most items remain unworn 90% of the time.
but one piece i have been happy to own for the past few years is a quilted puffer vest. i snagged this one at j.crew factory a few years ago and it has been the perfect layering piece in what i’d consider our coldest time of the year (from about december through late march). though it may not cover my extremities, it keeps my core warm and in mild winter weather, that’s really all that’s needed. i love layering mine over a long-sleeved striped tee, but it’s also cute over a chambray (or tissue turtleneck).
