three great bras for small-chested gals

let’s talk about the ladies for a minute. and by ladies, i mean boobs. yeah, i went there.

a few weeks ago i posed the question to my instagram followers for a recommendation for a good strapless bra. apparently after years of advancements in bra technology, we still haven’t quite mastered the realm of strapless undergarments because many people simply replied back that they didn’t have a recommendation but were rather curious to know the results of the survey. turns out we’re all walking around with terrible bras!

i will say that both aerie and thirdlove came up in the suggestion box a few times and while i can’t speak for the latter, i will say that having ordered many things from aerie (most applicable to this post -some great sports bras), i definitely considered snagging their strapless version. ultimately though i went with the everyday smooth multiway bra from gapbody and if you’ve been keeping track of my experience with it (via my instagram stories), you know that after a handful of wears, i’m still quite pleased with its performance (in other words, it is not a hula hoop around my waste by 3:00 p.m.). to be completely forthright, i think i was wearing a size too big before so that may have been part of my original problem. now that i have the proper circumference however, my ladies feel much more secure. per the description on the website, the bra “comes with removable, adjustable straps that can be worn classic, halter, crossback, one-strap, or strapless. [has] smooth, double-layer wings [with] adjustable hook and eye closure at back. embedded wire in smooth cups.” the cups are lined just enough to ensure that you aren’t overexposed in a cold room (if you know what i mean) but not so filled with fabric that it feels like a push-up bra. plus the nylon fabric makes a clean line under even the tightest-fitted tops so you don’t have to worry about any awkward topography (i’ve found lace detail looks funny under a close-fit tank top). the bra comes in a plethora of sizes and colors including nude, black, coral, and white.

besides the strapless bra (that does have underwire), i have two more recommendations for non-wired bras, also from gapbody —

the live-in pretty wireless bra (size 32A) || two words: memory foam. what makes this bra so amazing is that the cups have memory foam, making the need for underwire obsolete. from the moment i tried this bra on, i was obsessed with the neckline. it’s a sweetheart cut that’s so delicate and feminine that you get an extra spring in your step when you’re wearing it under even your simplest of t-shirts. the fabric itself is super soft and sits smoothly beneath clothes. the straps are adjustable and the band is slightly tacky near the hook and eye to ensure a secure fit around your chest. besides nude, the bra also comes in four other colors and an alphabet of sizes. i’m heavily considering purchasing this version in another color just to have options.

and the live in pretty bralette (size xs) || i’m not going to lie, at first blush, this kind of seemed like a fancy sports bra and in some ways, it kind of is. but in the best possible way. as the name would describe, this is a bralette so it doesn’t have the hook and eye closure of a traditional bra. and for that reason, it’s the kind of style that would make you forget you’re wearing one at all. similar to the live-in pretty wireless bra, this bralette also employs memory foam to mold to your shape. i purchased this version in particular for its deep v so i could wear it with lower-cut blouses and dresses. unlike some sports bras or lacy bralettes, this one is lined enough to avoid being overexposed. and despite being without wires, the band fits closely enough around the chest to offer just as much support as a regular bra. it’s kind of the unicorn of braziers, you guys. and it’s machine washable.

just like i’ve heard that larger-chested gals sometimes have a hard time finding functional (and CUTE!) bras, i feel like the same can be said for those on the other side of the spectrum, so i figured if you’re a member of the itty bitty titty committee like myself, you may benefit from a few tried and true recommendations. let me know if you end up trying any/all three!
