casa de rivera update no. 5

2 Permalink 4

next week will mark four whole months that we’ve called #casaderivera home. honestly it feels like we just moved in/have lived here forever all at the same time. i’m truly SO proud of us for everything we’ve managed to accomplished over these past sixteen weeks and i look forward to putting the finishing touches on the last few rooms especially as we move into the holidays. since our last update, we’ve purchased a new dining room table and fallen more in love with target and their amazing home decor selection -just to name a few… below are the latest updates to our humble abode.

since our last update, we…

finished our photo ledge || in the last update, S had just built the ledge in the living room. since then, we’ve finished accessorizing it with the addition of four prints! we knew we wanted a variety of sizes, so we kept that in mind as we perused etsy for the perfect images. ultimately we landed upon this print of a tree stump, this band poster of our favorite sister trio, haim, this llama portrait, and this image of a snake plant. the latter two were actually downloadable images which we purchased for under $10 and then had printed at our local CVS. it made the whole process of finding artwork not only really easy, but also super affordable. with the exception of the gold frame featuring our wedding photo, all of the frames were purchased at michaels which is always one of my go-to spots for home decor. they’re always having a BOGO or 40% off sale -especially in the frame department.

received the chairs for our kitchen nook table || after stalking these chairs online for months, we finally scooped them up at 20% off their original price. they arrived a couple weeks ago and match the base of our homemade kitchen table to perfection! we opted for the all wood style, but they come in an upholstered version as well. having recently done some dining room chair shopping, i can attest that they are a great price for the quality (and comfort!). just keep your eye on west elm’s website for sales because they offer discounts all the time!

made major progress in the dining room || after being a catch-all space for miscellaneous picture frames, unpacked boxes, and a rogue houseplant or two, we finally started to clean up the dining room. though we haven’t quite unloaded our current dining table (anyone in the market for a shabby chic table for six and four matching chairs?), we opted to take advantage of a leftover labor day sale at living spaces by snagging this mid-century modern table for 8 (with the leaf) along with two upholstered chairs. we like the look of mixing and matching the chairs so we’ll use the grey ones for the heads of the table and keep looking for six additional chairs to round out the set. in addition to the table and chairs, we also found the perfect area rug to bring a little warmth and ground the space. after browsing many home decor websites, (shocker!) we ended up with a pattered style from target. i’ve received a few questions about it and you guys, it’s even better in person than it appears online. though it reads as black and white, it’s more of a muted grey and ivory in person. the fabric is plush and the 7′ 10″ x 9′ 10″ size is perfect for a larger room. and as of now, it’s still being offered at a discounted price (a little over $200 which is a steal for an area rug). aside from selling off our old table, all that’s left is to find a new chandelier and maybe find a piece of artwork or knottery art for the wall. i’m really into macrame pieces right now and have my eyes set on something like this.

found pillows for the sectional || after receiving our beautiful sectional about a month ago (which we fall in love with more and more everyday), i knew we needed a few throw pillows to not only add a bit of color, but more importantly, for comfort –we needed something to support our head/necks! leave it to target (for the zillionth time) to come through in the clutch. my mom found these cute textured square pillows in a pretty taupe color and a few days later, i ordered these brown and white patterned lumbar pillows. when both styles arrived, again, i was pleasantly surprised by their quality and the fact that they matched the rest of the room’s decor so effortlessly. i wish i had a sponsorship deal with the bullseye because honestly, about 85% of our home decor now hails from the store.

(finally!) received our full-length mirror || it was a long-time coming, but after the first mirror got lost at the post office, our second mirror finally arrived and thankfully it was worth the wait (and minor headache). after a brief stint in the living room, we recently moved the mirror upstairs to our master bedroom and it has been perfect for getting ready in the morning and, more importantly, for filming try-on styling sessions. i love the mix of metal and wood and albeit on the shorter side (just about five feet), it definitely doesn’t emote fun-house vibes -meaning it’s still very flattering.

Love the post. Your home is certainly inviting AND calming. Every purchase shows excellent taste. And you’ve managed to purchase items conceptualizing the big picture. I’m sure everywhere you look you can remember the little stories behind each and every piece of furniture purchased or hand constructed. You’re actually living in your dream-come-true. How exciting!!!
