what i’m packing for our ojai trip

we’re headed to the magical ojai valley inn to celebrate our second wedding anniversary next week and i couldn’t be more excited. for one it has been on my bucket list to stay at the acclaimed resort, but more importantly, after the winter cold virus worked its way through our house (it hit me first, then took its toll on S), i’m most excited to have a few days of quality (and healthy) time with my husband.

after a week of rain, the forecast gods are smiling in our favor and the temperatures are supposed to be in the mid-60’s with plenty of sun(!). per usual, i’m overpacking, but only to give myself a few extra options depending on my mood (meaning, i packed more cozy things than i normally do should we opt to do more lounging than exploring). if you watched my instagram stories, you know that i use three main guidelines when it comes to planning my outfits for a trip -regardless of its duration:

  1. weather.
  2. potential activities.
  3. color palette.

a few days before, i plug the destination into my weather app so i can keep an eye on the forecast to assist me in determining which pieces will be most appropriate to pack (i.e. sweaters for cooler temps, tanks and shorts for a fortuitous heatwave). assessing our potential itinerary is next -so i have the proper clothes to match our activities. luckily this trip is more of a “rest and relaxation and maybe order room service” trip as opposed to some of our more “get out and explore and maybe walk ten miles” trips so my choice to pack cozy sweaters, a relaxed pair of jeans, and the comfiest jumpsuit reflects that. finally, the last thing i do in preparation of packing is choosing a color palette. when i opt for pieces that fall within the same color family, it makes putting together outfits a breeze. for this specific trip, i chose shades of mustard, grey, cognac, and denim (which is kind of my color palette for everyday life, ha).

while a couple pieces i’ve packed are old, nearly everything in my suitcase is still available (and in some cases, on super sale!). i’ve linked everything below along with sizing specifics:
