i always take fashion trends with a grain of salt. i oftentimes have to ask myself before purchasing the ‘it’ item of the season, “am i buying this because i genuinely like it/see it thriving in my wardrobe or just because i might have FOMO if i’m the only one not participating in the trend?”
when it came to the resurgence of the fanny pack (just one of many of the 90’s trends back in the zeitgeist), i was apprehensive at first. did i really need to revisit the hands-free bag of my youth? my thoughts changed once i saw both natalie (@natalieborton) and karla (@karlareed) style their madewell belt bag. not only did the bag not look like the typical bulky pouch i used to sport with my oversized tee and bike shorts, it was more versatile, too. madewell’s version can also be deconstructed, resulting in a skinny belt and/or leather clutch. with travel on the horizon for us, i can see this pouch being a great alternative to my usual crossbody bag. while it is on the smaller side, it does easily house my iphone 7plus, a couple credit cards/ID, and a few packets of stevia (which is all i need on any given day anyway).
if you’re on the fence about embracing this trend, i say go for it!
