madewell fall arrivals

madewell released some new fall arrivals this morning and of course i had to share my favorite things! this collection is full of quintessential ‘fall’ patterns, textures, and color palettes (think plaid, tweed, houndstooth, olive, rust, and mustard -oh my!) and it’s making me want to go out and buy a pumpkin ASAP. below are the items that immediately caught my eye including the two pieces that are currently on hold for me at my local store (i popped in to do a little try-on but didn’t find as many of the below items as i hoped to, perhaps they’ll get more of the collection in the store in the coming weeks?):

ruffle-yoke top in metallic plaid || i mean, who doesn’t love a plaid blouse for fall? what i love about this particular style is that its not overtly ‘lumberjack’ plaid with bright red and blue shades. instead it’s more of a subtle neutral color palette, which i believe to be a tad bit more versatile. i love the ruffle detail and the pops of gold. i’d probably layer it under overalls or french tuck it into my slim boyjeans.

simple circle crossbody bag in calf hair || when i was a kid i was REALLY into accessories. no joke, i probably had upwards of a dozen purses by six years old. somewhere between then and my late 20’s i lost my love for handbags, but now that i’m well into my next decade, i’ve come to find a great appreciation for purses, especially one in with a little personality. it should come as no surprise that i love this one for its playful animal print. i really love its unexpected shape, too. it would be the perfect pop of color against a chic LBD.

10″ high-rise skinny jeans in berkeley black: button-through edition || okay, RUN don’t walk to madewell (or to their website) and buy yourself these jeans STAT. i stopped by the store today to see if i could try on any of these new pieces in person and while i didn’t try on many things, i did manage to put these babies on my body and they are worth every penny. for years madewell has offered this style in a 9″ rise (which sadly is just too short for my long torso) so i was thrilled to learn they added a 10″ version this season. they are more of a washed black than a true black but i think i might prefer that anyway. they are super stretchy so i actually ended up sizing down one more size. if you snag yourself a pair, be sure to let me know so we can gush about them together 😉

baez pullover sweater in stripe || normally i opt for solid colors in terms of my fall/winter knits, but i love the muted tones of this striped sweater. i had an opportunity to touch this sweater (that sounds strange, but i wanted to feel how soft the fabric was and verdict is: it’s soft!) but opted out of trying it on (i’m regretting that decision now). either way, i think it would be beautiful paired with ‘winter white’ jeans. p.s. it also comes in grey.

pleated wide-leg pants || my friend courtney just did a styling session with these pants in white and she looked so cute in them that i wanted to try them on for myself. unfortunately they weren’t nearly as flattering on me as they were on her. just goes to show you that what works for someone else doesn’t always work for yours truly and vice versa. i will say, however, i love the new colors madewell released for the new season including this kale shade that i believe would pair beautifully with cognac.

alina mary-jane flat in leopard calf hair || repeat after me, i WILL NOT buy another pair of leopard flats. but boy oh boy are these tempting my will power. i actually put them on hold at the store after trying them on just to make myself miserable, ha (they fit TTS, by the way). in all reality i will not be purchasing these (at least not now, perhaps if they go on sale?), but i will say, i love the mary-jane silhouette and think perhaps the patent leather version would be a better option for me.

mockneck ruffle top in flocked dots || this blouse is a classic case of appearing one way online and another in person. in theory, polka dots and ruffles are always a winning combo, however, this blouse is very thin. i was going to try it on but to be honest, i didn’t feel like it was even worth doing so. such a bummer as its silhouette is normally one i love -i have a similar eyelet top from last year that’s a closet favorite!

ribbed pocked tee midi dress || another day, another midi dress. as you know, i’m always on the lookout for the perfect midi and this one looks like a great blank canvas for fall layering. after this midi dress wasn’t everything i hoped it would be (stay tuned to see it styled in my upcoming hat styling session), i am still on the hunt for a great black version to style for fall/winter. i love the simplicity of this one with its ribbed fabric and slightly longer sleeve. i’d pair it with my leopard booties and my oversized denim jacket.

central drapey shirt in dark tobacco || as i mentioned above, what works on someone else doesn’t always work for me. case in point, madewell’s signature central drapey shirt. natalie is the QUEEN of rocking this style but somehow it’s a miss for me. something about its shape (maybe after years of wearing a school uniform i have a thing against collars?) just always makes me feel not quite myself. and yet every time madewell releases the style in a new color or print, i find myself wondering if i should try it on for the umpteenth time in hopes of a different outcome. i’ve now concluded that the central shirt and i are just not a match made in heaven but if the silhouette works for YOU, please order this gorgeous tobacco shade. it would be beautiful with a simple pair of dark denim jeans and those leopard mary-janes!

paperbag jeans in flannigan wash || unfortunately this pair of jeans is only available through madewell’s website so i’d have to order them to know for sure, but i love the idea of adding a paperbag denim style to my collection. paperbag silhouettes are great for creating an hourglass shape and showcasing a small waistline. i love the idea of swapping out the denim belt for a braided leather version to create a little visual interest -as they’re styled in this photo.

texture & thread quilted wrap jacket || finally, aside from these jeans, i think this wrap jacket is the other item i would seriously consider purchasing from the current collection. i love the slightly bell sleeves, ribbed fabric, and how it would create a flattering silhouette. i’d layer it over a striped tee, add wide-leg cropped jeans, and my mid-calf booties. i just have to decide if i prefer the black or the golden pecan?

tell me, what are your favorite pieces from the collection?

i get a small commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post. thank you for supporting the brands that keep this blog up and running.

Well I can attest to the fact that you owned a lot of purses! In all the purses you had coins and accessories like bracelets and necklaces. You were very fashion forward.
