my maternity capsule wardrobe

in all honesty, i’ve wanted to do a capsule wardrobe forever and it looks like it only took getting pregnant to finally make it happen! though it may feel like 134967 years, pregnancy is only 40 weeks (most likely less for us since twins tend to arrive earlier than single babies) so i knew i didn’t want to go too crazy with purchasing things to wear as my body and bump grow and change over the course of the next six months. while i had every intention of wearing much of my current wardrobe as long as possible, the truth is, with a TWIN bump, i’ve outgrown things a lot sooner than anticipated.

for someone who has struggled with body image most of my adult life, the changes to my body have been disillusioning at times, but i just keep reminding myself that this time is so fleeting and the most important part is growing and nourishing these two little lives the best i can. for me, that means eating every two hours and getting in as much protein as possible. i’m learning to give myself plenty of grace and doing my best to embrace these new curves (hello bigger boobs!). it also helps that my husband tells me i’m beautiful all the time (my love language is words of affirmation).

with all of that said, i’m excited to share the purchases i’ve made thus far that i hope will last me well into my second trimester and beyond. i think i’ve done a pretty good job at creating a maternity style that is first and foremost all about COMFORT but also still feels very much like “me.” i’ve also been careful to curate a capsule wardrobe that will also take me into post-partum as well. it’s wild to think that a bulk of my pregnancy will transpire over the coldest months of the year and the babies will arrive smack dab in the middle of summer (well, maybe more at the beginning of it). thankfully living in san diego makes building a wardrobe fairly easy as the temperatures remain fairly temperate january-december. this is where layering is my best friend 🙂

enough blabbering, let’s get to the clothes! without further ado, below is my (twin) maternity capsule wardrobe and sample outfits i plan on putting on repeat from here until june:

mango ribbed jersey dressin black & hunter green

asos design maternity midi dress (saw this on @kathleen_barnes and immediately ordered it!)

mango floral print jumpsuit

motherhood maternity overalls

h&m MAMA boyfriend jeans

hatch stripe tee (asked for it in grey for christmas)

blanqi everyday maternity belly support leggings

spanx mama faux leather leggings

loft long ribbed v-neck cardiganin black & muslin

urban outfitters joy division unknown pleasures t-shirt dress

anine bing bing tee

anine bing bing ink tee (sold out)

h&m ac/dc tee

lou & grey ruffled sleeve tee (old)

anthropologie thermal babydoll top

urban outfitters victoria oversized v-neck sweater

aerie leopard print midi skirt

abercrombie knit midi skirt

madewell oversized jean jacket

in addition to the clothes, i plan on wearing as many of my shoes/boots as long as possible before my poor feet inevitably swell. right now, mules are my shoe of choice, but i was just gifted my first pair of birdies loafers and once i break them in, i’m sure i’ll be living in them (mama needs arch support!). as far as accessories go, i’ll of course continue to sport as many of my natalie borton earrings as possible and have added a few new headbands into the mix to make my often unwashed hair feel a bit more pulled together. i’ve also discovered that despite hardly wearing makeup, a swipe of bright lipstick works wonders for a tired pregnant lady’s morale (beautycounter’s ‘poppy’ and glossier’s ‘zip’ are my favorite shades).
