5 ways to style high-waisted linen shorts

0 Permalink 4

hello from the other side! i am officially five and a half weeks postpartum and slowly starting to feel more and more like my pre-pregnant self. admittedly, despite the lack of sleep and growing bags under my eyes, i consider my postpartum self to be a better version of the shawna pre-2020 if only for the fact that she grew, sustained, birthed, and continues to sustain (breastfeeding is a full-time job, you guys) two perfect tiny humans.

though i have been fortunate enough to be reunited with a majority of my non-maternity wardrobe (yay for jeans again!), i have noticed a desire to alter my personal style a bit to accommodate this season of motherhood. adding in a few new pieces to refresh my beloved standbys has made the transition into postpartum life a little more exciting and i swear getting dressed everyday has been crucial to maintaining positive mental health in the midst of this newborn haze.

so for my first venture into ‘mom style,’ i wanted to showcase these high-waisted linen shorts i recently picked up from h&m. this mom-friendly (high-waisted garments are a mom’s best friend -as is the longer hemline) silhouette is popular for summer, especially in linen (an equally as mom-friendly fabric because two words: machine washable!). in addition to the style i’m wearing, h&m has many similar versions here, here, here, here, here -i especially love the eyelet detailing of this pair. in terms of sizing, my midsection is still adjusting back to its pre-pregnant self so i sized up one size from what i normally wear at h&m, though of all the retailers i shop, i find the brand to be one of the most inconsistent. if you’re unsure, i might size up just to be safe.

i had a lot of fun composing these outfits with pieces from my current closet -each perfect for summer, including the upcoming 4th of july holiday. links to the exact items or similar options are listed below and as always, i’ve also published each look in the liketoknow.it app if that’s your preferred way to shop (i sincerely appreciate you shopping from my links as it goes right into the twins’ college fund ;)). speaking of the twins, check out their cameos in a styling video showcasing all five ensembles which will be posted on my IGTV channel at 6:00 p.m. PDT.

p.s. i’m wearing my new warby parker ‘ada’ sunglasses as eyeglasses.
