cream of the crop

one could say that with my long torso, i’ve inadvertently been embracing cropped tops for years. however, this season i’m embracing the mid-drift baring look on purpose. with an abundance of high-waisted pants/jeans in my closet, i’m loving the retro look of pairing said belly-button hovering trousers with tops that leave just a hint of skin in their wake. consider this recent j.crew purchase (pictured above) my gateway drug because with its impeccable fit and flattering lines, i’m all but ready to cut all of my current tops in half. because that would be foolish, i’ve instead perused the interwebs in search of viable cousins, perfect for the warmer weather on the horizon. here’s what i found:

i love the idea of this one with a matching linen pant or worn for a casual date night paired with distressed denim. this one looks very similar to the j.crew top but in a breezy linen fabric.

this tie-shoulder cutie would be perfect with a pair of crisp white denim and black heels for a fun GNO. you may remember i recently tried this one on and it would be perfect for memorial day and/or fourth of july with these sailor pants.

take your canadian tuxedo up a notch by pairing this cropped denim top with a lighter wash bottom (to avoid being too matchy matchy) and if you’re headed to a summer wedding, consider separates over a dress –this satin top paired with this high-waisted skirt and espadrilles.

in terms of how i’ll be wearing my crop top this summer, it’ll definitely be with these jeans, these pants, and possibly these shorts. if the above crops don’t suit your fancy, i’ve rounded up a few more below.

will you be embracing the crop top this spring/summer?
