if you’ve been here a while, you know my love for this pair of pants runs deep. i have sung their praises to anyone who would listen, and even included them in the october capsule. after adding a second pair in faux leather, i was hesitant to continue my collection. the natural next step was to add a blue denim style, but did i really need another pair of wide-leg jeans? the short answer was no. however i persisted.
before hitting purchase on a third pair of the marine straight style, i decided to first test out the also very acclaimed culotte jean from fellow european brand, mango. i have a try-on saved in my instagram stories, but in case you missed it, they didn’t quite live up to their hype. i liked them well enough but i wasn’t in LOVE. so i decided to return them and order the zara version instead.
as i do with most things from zara, i decided to size up. the website even says the jeans run small, so i opted for the 4 over my usual size 2. they fit higher on the waist than the mango style did (which i personally love, the higher the better!) and the leg shaft is definitely wider. i also much prefer the overall classic blue wash. as you can see from the photos, they are essentially full-length on me even on my 5’7″ frame. so if you’re on the petite side, you might have to have them hemmed to a more manageable length.
at just under $50, they’re a great option if you’re looking to add a wide-leg silhouette into your denim collection. i love them paired with a feminine blouse like this old ruffled long-sleeve from anthropologie but also plan on sporting them with my puff-sleeve sweaters and sweatshirts throughout these cooler months. come spring, they’ll be perfect for pairing with my beloved crop tops!
