if you’ve seen moneyball, you know that brad pitt looks good in anything, even track suits. well, yes, that, and that his adorable tween-age daughter records a song for him to listen to for inspiration-slash-encouragement when he’s facing one of the most nerve-racking and equally as exhilarating seasons of his career as the a’s manager. for a time i thought the song was original to the movie -that someone had written it specifically to be sung by kerris dorsey’s character.
that is, until i heard it on my sara bareilles pandora station. turns out, it’s like a real song called “the show” sung originally by the artist lenka. i know, who knew? well, for one, pandora.
lately i’ve been opting for the best pandora has to offer in lieu of my habitual intake of the morning musings of my favorite radio show as i take in the sights and brake lights of the southbound I5. i’m not sure if it’s because i’ve been looking for a reason to sing with reckless abandon (as if i need a reason for that), or if the sweet melodies of adele’s rendition of “make you feel my love” act as the perfect backdrop of which to be one with my thoughts on my mindless commute, but whatever the reason, i’ve found that my mood is both serene and content when i finally idle my car in the club’s parking lot at approximately 7:23 a.m.
ironically enough, on today’s particular drive, the words of lenka’s “the show” transmitted through my car speakers as i made the last leg of my journey to high avenue. now in case you hadn’t noticed, i am not a baseball manager, but that by no means discounts my necessity for a little inspo every now and then. especially if said inspiration reminds me to release this vice grip i seem to have around life’s neck, and instead, enjoy the show that is my life.
so on this particular thursday, with the sun shining across my front windshield, my shades on, and my hair curled, i sang out the lyrics to the song with a greater appreciation.
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know whySlow it down
Make it stop
Or else my heart is going to pop
‘Cause it’s too much
Yeah, it’s a lot
To be something I’m notI’m a fool
Out of love
‘Cause I just can’t get enoughI’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know whyI’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the showThe sun is hot
In the sky
Just like a giant spotlight
The people follow the sign
And synchronize in time
It’s a joke
Nobody knows
They’ve got a ticket to that show
YeahI’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know whyI’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the showJust enjoy the show
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know whyI’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the showdum de dum
dudum de dumJust enjoy the show
dum de dum
dudum de dumJust enjoy the show (via)
these days when i find myself just a little bit caught in the middle, i’m just trying embrace the in-between. turns out no one in life or in love really has it all figured out. so what’s the use in me chasing after an enigmatic entity? instead, i think i’ll just refocus my efforts, live a little more simply, uncomplicate things, and at the end of the day –just enjoy the show.
because from my seats, the show looks is pretty darn awesome.
