despite the fact that it has only been a couple weeks since my last house update, we’ve made some pretty big strides over the last fourteen days in terms of home decor so this monthly-ish series is getting posted a little early. mostly because…
WE FINALLY GOT OUR SECTIONAL!
(and it’s even better than we could have imagined).
i’ll explain more below along with the latest updates to casa de rivera.
so without further ado, in the last two weeks we:
received our sectional from interior define || aside from a small delivery snafu, our experience with interior define was extremely positive and the 10 weeks of waiting paid off 1000%. we are in love with our custom u-shaped sectional from the online distributor and thanks to some careful measuring, it fits perfectly in our living room. for those who may ask, we ended up going with the sloan u-shaped sectional in natural heavy cloth fabric with the natural oak tapered round legs. similar to a new pair of shoes, we’ve had to break in the cushions a bit, but as they’ve softened, the couch continues to get more and more comfortable. all that’s left now is to add a few throw pillows! (p.s. my mom found these on clearance at target (we purchased them in tan) and they’re perfect. we’ll probably end up with five pillows total and i’m eyeing these next, along with something in a neutral-colored pattern).
keeping with the living room theme, we’ve really focused on finishing this room lately and with the most recent updates, i think we’re about 90% of the way there.
found the perfect coffee table + accessories || we held off from purchasing a coffee table (or having S construct one) until we could see in person how the sectional would fit in the room. once we knew how much space we were working with, i started the search for something round possibly with gold accents to compliment the gold in the picture frames i knew we’d eventually display in there as well. leave it to good ol’ target to come through in the clutch! this gorgeous round marble topped table was just what the room needed and at under $150, it was a STEAL compared to the other options we had been considering. once we received the table, i knew i wanted to “style” it so i immediately went looking for a tray to adorn it. the tray would not only add visual interest, it would be functional as well, perfect for holding our coasters, a candle, a cute little succulent, and the TV remove, of course. i immediately perused through chip and jojo’s hearth & hand line for target and found this wood tray with gold accents. again, all the gold, guys, i can’t get enough!
built a photo ledge (this was all S, of course) || to make the room feel “finished”, we knew we needed some kind of artwork on the wall adjacent to the sectional. we gleaned inspiration from our favorite home diy blog, chris loves julia and agreed that our home, too, needed a photo ledge. we scaled the length of the ledge down a few feet (opting for 6 feet instead of 10) to better accommodate the space, but essentially S made an exact replica, with a lip and everything. i love the “unfinished” feel of simply leaning frames against the wall versus hanging them, so this ledge will be perfect for displaying a few prints that compliment both our interests and style. besides a couple of wedding photos, we plan on styling the room with this adorable llama print as well as this funky band poster illustration of our favorite band, haim (both were purchased off etsy), keeping our eyes peeled for a few more pieces to add down the road.
installed pendant lights over the kitchen island (again, my husband is incredible) || after waiting for them to come back in stock for what seems like forever (in truth it was probably about a month and a half? we haven’t even been in our house for three months yet), we recently ordered our beloved pendant lights from birch lane. they arrived last week and S wasted no time installing them, putting in blood (thank goodness), sweat, and tears on sunday to make it all happen. to compliment the black cabinet knobs, we ordered the lantern-style lights in the black/chrome combination, ultimately spray painting the chrome pole a matte black for uniformity. the result is quite literally something out of my home decor dreams. we could not be more pleased with the final product and based on how many messages i received when i posted them in my stories last weekend, we’re not the only ones who agree. the lights are currently 45% off, and at under $100 a piece, they’re a real steal if you ask me!
in other news…
update on mirrorgate: for those who have been following along especially in my early morning outfit instagram stories, you know we’ve been waiting on our full-length mirror to arrive for a few weeks now. we ordered it from world market at the end of july and over the course of the past month, it has somehow gotten “misplaced” in the mail. how does one loose a five foot mirror? at any rate, the world market customer service team has been extremely helpful, ordering us a new one (less the shipping fee!) to be delivered (fingers crossed) in the next week or so. fingers crossed it can be included in the next home update.
