i really try to not use shopping as therapy but sometimes when i’m feeling anxious and in need of a little break from my never-ending list of to-do’s, a quick perusal through anthropologie has the power to completely change my mood (i’m convinced it’s the smell of volcano candles and expensive clothing).
feeling a little unsettled after returning home from a friend’s baby shower this weekend, i decided a trip to the forum carlsbad for some window shopping and a stroll in the fresh winter air might be just the remedy to my plight. in all honesty, i had no intention of buying anything when S and i stepped into my favorite store for a quick inventory of their sale rack but that was of course before i spotted something black and white polka-dotted poking out from amongst the flock of discounted frocks (and also before i realized all sale items were an additional 25% off). upon further inspection of the elusive dotted garment i soon realized that the sleeve that had caught my eye belonged to not a dress but a jumpsuit and as destiny would have it, one in my size. i couldn’t not try it on. even S knew that. i headed to the dressing room half wishing that the fit of the jumpsuit would be its ultimate demise. due to my long torso, it takes a very generous inseam to make a garment such as this look flattering on my body. but lo and behold, once i zipped it up and took an inaugural gaze in the mirror, i noticed that i no longer had a choice in the matter. the garment had chosen me. and accordingly, it had to be mine.
at first blush, this could be seen as the quintessential impulse buy. i was sad. it was on sale. but once i took it home and began pulling pieces to style it with, i realized what a find it had been. its light-weight fabric will make it great as we transition into spring/summer (hello la quinta trip!) and the fact that it has sleeves and a modest silhouette automatically makes it work-appropriate. plus it’s my favorite color-combination -black and white, so it’s as versatile as it is timeless.
speaking of versatile, to showcase two different ways to style my newest wardrobe addition, S and i headed over to leo carrillo, one of my favorite local gems to capture a few shots. how amazing are these doors?!

First… a terrific buy. Polka-dots are completely underrated. You look lovely in your new find, and you’ve paired it beautifully with the denim. The location was perfect, perfect. And your photographer did a great job of highlighting your daily look with the stunning backdrop of Leo Carrillo. Two thumbs up!

How fun! I’m a sucker for polka dots AND jumpsuits so the fact that this piece combined the two, I clearly had no choice but to make it mine 😉 Have fun styling it and thanks so much for stopping by!
