favorite color mural

you may remember this wall from an old #shawnaleeannstyle post late last year. it’s the creation of artist, roy mcmakin, and part of the murals of la jolla art exhibition featuring large art installations all over the city. i’d be lying if i said that making a pit stop by the favorite color mural for a quick photo shoot wasn’t part of the reason for taking the trip to la jolla in the first place but since we were already there, i figured it wouldn’t hurt to stop by.

despite the dreary conditions earlier that week, the weekend weather felt more like summer than may grey. so i figured it was the perfect opportunity to sport my new copper-colored shorts. they are the perfect staple for any weekend warrior and come in four colors -all perfect for summer. i had initially gravitated toward the navy, but pushed myself to try on the rust color instead. surprisingly i liked the way it complimented my skin tone and since it was still on the neutral color spectrum i figured they’d go with a few items i already owned (including but not limited to chambray, this striped blouse, and even a simple white tee).

since copper (which is essentially a shade of orange) is opposite blue on the color wheel, i knew these shorts would pair well with light-wash denim so i layered a sleeveless button-down beneath a black cashmere sweater. my reasoning for the extra layer was two-fold -the pop of blue ensured i didn’t look like halloween as well as ensured i was nice and warm. i threw on my giant straw hat and my pom pom shoes to add a little character to the look and exchanged my normal cognac leather tote for a crossbody bag.
