happy memorial day, y’all!
today marks the unofficial kick-off of the summer season. and while autumn will always hold my heart, there is something about this particular summer that has me just giddy. maybe it’s the fact that it’s already filling up with weddings and showers and weekend trips, oh my. or maybe it’s the fact that summer means cut-off jeans, bikinis, fedoras, and duh, a wardrobe solely made up of reds, whites, and blues.
let’s be honest, it’s probably a mixture of both.
anyway, i hope you are enjoying this three-day weekend thus far. here in america’s finest city, they’re forecasting temps in the upper 70’s. so if you need me, i’ll be outside soaking up the sunshine. with spf 50, of course.
and lest we forget why we are gifted this break from the 9-5 grind, today we also honor all of the men and women who have fought so that we may be free.
I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.
