now just what is this post all aboot?
(get it?!)
it’s aboot my love for boots (and a good canadian accent, clearly). after experiencing el nino’s impending reign a couple weeks ago, it’s clear winter weather is here to stay. to me, that translates to cozying up in oversized sweaters, covering up unwashed hair with knit beanies, and keeping my toes warm and dry beneath some of my favorite boots.
as a native san diegan i will say my boot collection is quite measly compared to a good portion of the rest of the country. but with a forecast of almost year-round sun, i can’t really justify having too many pairs (open-toe flats and sandals, those are another story…). so i’ve narrowed down my boot repertoire to just four styles that i believe work for a myriad of occasions:
and of course,
cowboy boots (because they pair so well with tulle).
since there were so many photos from this shoot, i’ve decided to break it up into a two-part series. today’s looks feature my steve madden ‘intyce’ leather boots that i’ve rocked since college (truth be told these aren’t the original pair, i’ve probably gone through at least two!) and my sam edelman petty suede ankle booties that joined the collection just this past fall. both pairs are extremely versatile and often pull double duty being styled for day and play.
mid-calf leather boots
i swear to you every girl i know has owned these boots at one point in their life. hands down they are one of the most-worn pairs of shoes in my wardrobe and have been, as i mentioned before, for the past (gulp) decade+. they are fancy enough to be worn with dresses but laid-back enough to pair with jeans and the slightest wedge heel makes them comfortable enough to wear them through hours of walking/standing.

suede booties
for the longest time i avoided booties because i thought they’d be unflattering. i know, i know, but i have this slight cankle complex and i just assumed they’d only illuminate that. that is until i eventually tried them on and realized i’m bananas (and not in the rachel zoe way). since i tend to be a little accident prone, i’m always a bit fearful of suede. but i had seen this particular style circulating the interwebs for months and i didn’t have anything in my closet in this delicious putty color so after realizing i had a few nordstrom gift cards burning holes in my wallet, i took the plunge and ordered these and have been patting myself on the back ever since (and i’m proud to report no accidents have happened yet!). bottom line: i am obsessed with these shoes. i wear them with skinny jeans, i wear them with skirts. with tights and bare legs. come spring i’ll wear them with frilly dresses and pretend i’m going to coachella. because let’s be honest, i’m not cool enough to go.
