if there was a material that signified summer to me, it would be seersucker (gingham would be a close second, of course). despite the crazy heat wave we’ve been experiencing, i can’t help but feel summer is already winding down and before we know it it’ll be time for boots, scarves, and sweaters. so this weekend i made sure to take advantage of this seasonal fabric and donned a dress i’ve had in my closet for over a decade. believe it or not this was the dress i wore beneath my gown on high school graduation day. despite my propensity to purge my wardrobe every other season, it’s one of the only garments that has stood the test of time. i love its 50’s inspire silhouette and the light-weight fabric and for those reasons (and more) it continues to be a summer staple year after year.

with back to back birthday parties this weekend, i knew this dress would keep me cool and comfortable all day. i tied a chambray around my waist for visual interest (and the extra layer was great to have on hand in case it was cool in the shade) and a straw hat to keep the look summer casual. gold accents finished off the look. it was the perfect ensemble to wear as we celebrated two of our favorite littles!
