i recently concluded that the real factors that make a house a home are the little personal details. a glass jar with eucalyptus leaves or olive branches (fun fact: we incorporated lots of olive branches at our wedding since the venue had tons of olive trees on the property so i’d love to pay homage to our special day with branches or even an olive tree for the new house!), a framed photograph from a memorable trip, candles in your favorite scent, or in this case, a piece of hand-picked artwork.
i’ll be the first to admit that shopping for art isn’t easy. art is such a subjective medium. what could be aesthetically pleasing to me might not be to my husband or anyone else that visits our home. plus the artwork that adorns your walls should be cohesive with the overall vibe of the design of your home. with so much to consider, this is why i’ve lived with blank walls for so many years -or at best -with a cheesy print from home goods that reads “live, laugh, love” or something of the like.
but a grown-up house means finally finding some grown-up art to go with it. so the search begins. and my first stop has been perusing the fine art print selection on minted.com (p.s. this is not a sponsored post, i just love the website). we’ve used minted many times for our save the dates, thank you notes, and last year’s christmas card. i had never thought to consider them for our art needs, but as i began scrolling through the custom prints, i became hopeful that S and i could find some viable pieces to adorn our home. here are some of my favorites:
the other place i’ve been gravitating toward for custom prints has been arielle vey’s photography website. i originally discovered arielle on instagram and soon realized she’s local (oceanside!). her photography is breathtaking and focuses on her southern california surroundings. i love the bright colors and how she captures our local landmarks so well. though we plan to stick to a more neutral palette for our decor, i love her prints so much, i might just order one for fun. right now i’m smitten with this flamingo print, the lifeguard tower, and the vw bus.
