an ode to horseshoe jeans (and wearing what you love)

sometimes there are those items in your closet that don’t boast the same universal appeal that, say, a simple white tank does. these pieces are the outliers, the garments perhaps purchased on a whim, but the ones that have the potential to bring you the greatest joy.

enter the horseshoe jean.

meet my latest polarizing purchase –citizen of humanity’s horseshoe style jean, a style with perhaps the highest-rise of my entire denim collection (13″!) and a wide-leg silhouette so exaggerated, it would appear the wearer just got off of a majestic equine. as a lover of wide-leg denim, i was instantly intrigued by the horseshoe style. while it certainly has “trendy” written all over it, the more i thought about it (and saw it styled in a freda salvador campaign), the more i thought it could be the quintessential “shawna” jean, and a style i wouldn’t just wear for a season, but for years to come.

they might not be your cup of tea, but man do these jeans make me happy. so much so that i just bought the same pair in a darker wash. i look forward to sporting the latter well into fall and throughout the winter season. at the end of the day, i subscribe to the philosophy of “wear what you love” no matter what the fashion industry or public opinion says. life’s too short to wear anything but what makes you the happiest. and these horseshoe jeans are just the serotonin boost i need.
