it’s only appropriate that bastille day was yesterday (french national day) because madewell has yet again teamed up with french designer sezane to bring a capsule collection perfect for the inner parisian in all of us. while the pieces are a bit on the spendy side, i view them more as an investment, especially considering how versatile they would be in my (or anyone’s for that matter) wardrobe. here are the items i’m having a moment with this morning:
one || paris mon amore tee. as if you needed to ask why a striped tee made it onto my list… i love this style particularly for how well it could be dressed up or down depending on the mood. i love the idea of pairing it with a simple pair of denim or tucking it into my black eyelet skirt for a more feminine dressier look. plus translated it means “paris my love” which is appropriate given my affinity for the european city.
two || jaipur shirt. i love a good transition shirt -one that can take me from the cool evenings of summer into the heat waves of fall. this light-weight cotton long-sleeve blouse would be perfect for work and play. in my opinion you can never go wrong with classic white or lace detailing and this shirt boasts both. like a good chambray, this top is a must for any capsule collection.
three || striped knit dress. oh would you look at that, another striped number. #sorryi’mnotsorry. if i were to invest in just one of the pieces in this collection, this dress would be the likeliest choice. i can see it paired with my red d’orsay flats or black espadrille wedges now, and with boots as we transition to fall and winter. throw a denim vest over it or add a scarf and it is the perfect staple for weekend getaways. coupled with a pair of tights and statement necklace, it’s a perfect classic office look (the possibilities are endless!). my only concern is its length as madewell dresses tend to be on the shorter side, so if it’s better suited for my petite princesses, perhaps i’ll look into this LBD from the collection instead.
five || pullover sweater. i’ve made it no secret my continuing quest to find a replacement sweater for my beloved off-white knit that came back from the cleaners barbie-sized. i’ve found a handful of what i believed to be contenders, but in actually trying them on in the store, they’ve all proven to come up short (literally, what is with the cropped look this season?). i have high hopes for this cozy sweater in a classic beechwood hue. thrown over jeans or paired with my favorite a-line skirt, this might just be the answer to my pullover plight.

Hmmm… I usually like the clothes selections but these leave me wanting something a bit more classic. It’s probably our generational gap. I love the classic New York styles illustrated in Vogue, or the draped (uber-feminine) style of Audrey Hepburn. I do like the purse paired with the sweater, however.
