this weekend S and i went on a long overdue date to honey’s in downtown encinitas. we ate acai bowls and french toast smothered in butter and syrup. we nursed our coffee, relishing in the fact that we had beaten the morning rush. after breakfast we strolled down 2nd street and ended up on a park bench overlooking moonlight beach. sometimes it really is hard to believe we live here. and far too often, i begrudgingly admit, we take that very fact for granted.
we watched surfers pray for surf as they bobbed like buoys in the calm pacific and pigeons swarm above us like a little black cloud of feathers and filth. we sat huddled together using body heat to stay warm. after such a humid summer thus far, it was refreshing to feel a slight chill in the air before the temperatures climbed into the 80’s again. it made me excited for fall. though i’m not quite ready to say goodbye to this season yet either.
albeit brief, our slow morning reminded me that sometimes the best parts of the day are so simple. they’re not spent in front of a television or in a clothing store, eating out at a fancy restaurant or even watching a film at the movie theater boasting leather seats (though that is certainly a perk). rather, they’re spent
beside your best friend,
coffee in hand,
overlooking the ocean on the perfect overcast august morning.

So true, and so awesome you are able to slow down and be still and enjoy the quiet times. xo

What a wonderful morning the two of you spent. Enjoy many more. (BTW – feathers and filth… ha, made me laugh.)
