all about athleisure || from barre to the bar

in my non-9-5 life, i’m a barre instructor. which means that in addition to making clients suffer through #hurtssogood exercises like extension and fetal, i get to wear a britney mic and in turn, fulfill a lifelong dream. though barre classes have become quite the exercise trend in recent years, i still find myself splitting my time between explaining that no, i’m not a bartender (if only they knew how ironic that would be) nor am i studying to take the bar exam. but thanks for thinking i’m smart enough for law school (what, like it’s hard?).

so with that said, other than for the occasional weekend photo shoot, come friday night, i do my best to avoid structured waistbands until monday morning (anyone else feel me on this?). that means i alternate between spandex leggings and drawstring sweatpants (i prefer the very technical term of “pajamie jams”). in my defense, i am at the studio barre studio from 8:00 a.m.-12 p.m. on saturday morning, so part of this “spandex only” uniform is based on necessity, not pure laziness. but when you wear pencil skirts and high heels 40 hours a week, sometimes the last thing you want to do is play dress-up.

lucky for me, there’s a trend that’s been circulating for the last year called athleisure (athletic wear + leisure wear). it’s basically the fashion industry’s fancy term for what we were all already doing -living in lululemon leggings and novelty tees in an effort to not get fully dressed yet still maintain an element of fashionability. it’s that “i might have just worked out” look. because it’s better to make people think you did than actually, you know, working out. anyway, i, for one am ALL about that bass this trend and am excited to share how i recently styled my newest tank from simplyworkout shoppe for the barre and the bar (or restaurant, coffee shop, [insert local watering hole here]). just by switching up some of the accessories, i can take my workout outfit straight into date night (with extra deodorant, of course).
