you guys, i’m jumping out of my skin! tomorrow i go shopping for my wedding dress!
you’d think after years of watching (and crying over) say yes to the dress, my vision for what i want in my own wedding dress would be clear. but despite all of that “research,” my ideas for my gown are kind of all over the map. like most things in life, i can usually determine what i don’t want far before i can decide upon what i do. so if we’re really being honest, my list of “dislikes” includes: satin, ruching, beading/bedazzling, ball gown & mermaid styles (did i just alienate half of you?).
with that said, i knew i wanted to give my bridal consultants some sort of direction at our appointment, so after ruling out things i didn’t want in my wedding dress, i also made a list (and gathered pictures) of details i did like. the list was as follows:
lace
tulle
unconventional style, even structural
sleeves (not kate middleton style, think capped or flutter)
ivory or gold accents (as opposed to pure white)
i also sat and thought about what three words i would want used to describe my look on my wedding day. they were: romantic, classic, and ethereal.
so armed with the details above, i set out to find a few examples of designs i had admired either while perusing wedding blogs (which happened long before S was even in the picture), trolling wedding photographers’ instagram feeds, or the good old-fashioned way, scrolling through pinterest. below are the photos i will take to my three appointments for inspiration:
image sources (top left & going clockwise):
one || two || three || four || five || six || seven || eight
while i obviously won’t be revealing THE dress on the blog, i will be sharing snippets of my experience on snapchat (iamshawnaleeann), instagram (@shawnaleeann), as well as providing a comprehensive (and honest) account of each scheduled visit to the bustle, elle bridal boutique, and the dress theory next week.
with all of that said, wish me luck! eeee, i can’t wait.
xoxo

I’m so happy for you. When Jamie and I went shopping for her dress I watched her “yes” and “no” dozens of dresses at half a dozen shops. When she found “the dress” her excitement spilled out… even the shop ladies were excited. Thankfully there was nobody else in the section of the shop because Jamie picked up the full skirt and began twirling around (it’s amazing she didn’t knock something over). I’ll NEVER forget the look on her face. You and your mom will have a wonderful, memory-making day tomorrow. My heart is full for you. Have a dream come true day.

What a wonderful story! We honestly can’t wait. And what will make the experience even more special is the fact that S’s mom will also be joining us. I’m fairly certain the water works will be in full effect. xoxo
