i don’t know about you, but i’ve noticed i’m spending less and less on clothing these days. i mean, look, have i treated myself to a few things lately? yes, yes i have, but overall i would say i’ve done a pretty good job at curbing my spending habits at some of my favorite stores (cough, madewell, cough).

so in lieu of shopping for new things, i’ve been attempting to “shop my closet” instead, pulling out once-forgotten pieces and breathing fresh life into them by pairing them with items i may no have previously considered. if you’ve followed my daily instastories where i document getting ready for work every morning, you may have noticed me employing this technique in real time. albeit a bit challenging at times (especially pre-coffee), i’ve found that taking the time to try new combinations has made me not only rediscover my love for some of my forgotten garments, but has resulted in some pretty cute looks!

for this particular occasion, S and i were meeting our friends and their toddler for an early dinner. the weather this weekend wasn’t as hot as last’s but it was still warm enough to warrant summer clothes. i took a moment to scour my closet for something that i hadn’t worn in a while and emerged with these cropped jeans. since i can’t wear denim to work, i find myself reaching for my cotton cropped pants instead, so it was fun to remix this button-fly pair. i opted to keep the outfit pretty simple, playing with a classic black and white color palette. it had been a while since i had accessorized with a bandana so i added it around my neck for a little visual interest as well as opted for my striped espadrilles over a plain black flat. i have found that making little swaps like that can take an outfit from simple to styled.
