recent purchases -september 2021

another month has (almost) passed us by (how?!) and after striking out on many of my recent online purchases, we had some real winners this month! here are the latest things to arrive (or will be arriving) on our front door step.

the homeruns:

levi’s vintage overalls (small) || as i’ve made mention many times before –if julia berolzheimer (my ultimate girl crush/style muse) posts/wears/endorses something even remotely in my price range, i may or may not have to scoop it up immediately. she recently claimed these overalls were the best she had found (granted, she’s pregnant right now so do with that what you will…) and after searching high and low for a good pair of non-skinny overalls that don’t make me look like a mechanic, i followed her lead and ordered myself a pair. and as you know from this post, they are the new loves of my life (after S, the twins, and my parents). i am obsessed and believe they are worth every single penny. i will be living in them until further notice.

gap high rise barrel joggers (0 or 2) || admittedly, i only really shop at gap for loungewear and bras but i had some time recently and was able to pop into my local store and was pleasantly surprised to find these joggers. i was initially drawn to the color of them (mushroom brown) but once i got in the dressing room, i realized just how flattering they were on my shape. i sized down in the store and found them to be snug but not to the point of uncomfortable. when i got home to order them online (where i would snag a BIGGER discount), i noticed the smaller size was no longer available so i went with my normal size. to be honest, i always love a little breathing room in my pants anyway. i can’t wait to style these for fall -in fact i plan on doing a little styling session so stay tuned!

gap waffle-knit t-shirt (xs) || i’m on a bit of a waffle-knit kick these days and left to my own devices, i might have scooped this shirt up in every color after trying it on at the aforementioned trip to gap. it’s perfectly oversized without feeling frumpy and would be a great layering piece if you lived in a cooler climate. since san diego winters are mild, i’ll probably just wear it with denim, or perhaps under my favorite coatigans.

the misses:

abercrombie high-slit midi skirt (small) || after this skirt ended up being a miss, i’ve been on the hunt for a midi-length alternative to add to my collection. i own this exact style in two other prints (polka dot & snakeskin) so i was confident i would love the silhouette. the pattern and color are a bit out of my usual comfort zone, but i loved the idea of adding a rich jewel tone to my fall wardrobe. when it arrived, i did, in fact, love the way it fit my shape, but as expected, when i went to create outfits with existing pieces in my closet, i realized the pattern only really paired best with white. without versatility, i ultimately decided to return it.

and what has yet to arrive:

loft pointelle puff sleeve top (small -ordered it in pink) || i’m not normally a pink person, but i’m really into this shade for fall. plus having a daughter has also made me reconsider giving the pastel shade a place for sporadic sprinkling in my closet. it should come as zero surprise that another puff sleeve top weaseled its way into my online shopping cart, but i loved the pointelle detail and the fact that it’ll be perfect under my vintage overalls.

loft puff sleeve henley top (small -ordered it in shadow heather & soft moss) || i have had these two tops idling in my shopping cart for WEEKS but managed to use self-control and did not hit purchase until they went on sale. they finally dropped in price this week and i pounced. once again my favorite combination is a henley and a puff sleeve so i have all faith that they will be just as good in person as they appear online. i think they’ll be perfect for pairing with denim all fall/winter long.

madewell MWL betterterry henley sweatshirt (small) || i blame this purchase on the recent insider sale, but yes, i snagged another henley sweatshirt because i can’t be stopped. while i was tempted to buy it in white, i opted for heather grey instead. i love the idea of pairing it with black bike shorts, crew socks, and sneakers for an easy athleisure look. it doesn’t ship until october 1st, but i’ll definitely share my thoughts once it finally arrives.

i get a small commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post. thank you for supporting the brands that keep this blog up and running.
