am i a turtleneck girlie now?

by now i’m certain you’ve seen some form of this turtleneck in your instagram feed. probably worn by some effortlessly chic european paired with tossled hair, a straight leg denim, designer loafers on a cobblestone street. or maybe that’s just my feed? at any rate, beloved blog readers, meet this season’s IT knit. oh that’s clever! the IT KNIT. brb, going to trademark that.

i believe the original version of this striped wonder is from totême and it retails for $570. yes you read that correctly. now i’ll splurge on a pair of jeans or shoes that i know i’ll wear daily. but when it comes to tops, almost $600 is a leeeetle crazy, no? especially when there are so many great dupes.

ENTER THE GAP DUPE.

as i’ve shared recently, gap is having a moment. i’ve been so impressed by their fall collection and i only hope the trend continues through the holidays. after seeing gap’s version of the must-have striped turtleneck on a few dozen shopping lists, i began to soften my stance on being team no turtleneck. for whatever reason i’ve avoided neck-covering sweaters throughout the course of my adult life (perhaps i exhausted them in my youth?) mostly for the fact that i’ve found them unflattering on my frame. but there is an exception for every rule –even the fashion variety. and after trying this one on and styling it with a few existing pieces in my wardrobe, i think i can say i’m a turtleneck girlie now. i am so pleasantly surprised by how much i love it.

as far as fit goes, it does run a bit big (it does say “oversized” in the name) so i sized down to the xs and it fits just as i hoped it would. if stripes aren’t your thing, it does come in a few solid colors, too! it’s 100% cotton so it’s machine washable and free of itch since it doesn’t have a speck of wool (hallelujah).
