remember when sex and the city was airing and we were all constantly categorizing ourselves as either the miranda, charlotte, samantha or carrie? i mean based on the fashions alone, i’ve always wanted to be the carrie, but given my personality, i think most people would categorize me as a charlotte instead. and honestly, they’re not wrong. plus charlotte ends up with harry, the BEST of the series’ men by a landslide.
ANYWAY regardless of who you identify with, i’m here to talk about a different charlotte. the charlotte cardigan, a stunning piece from sezane’s latest “an essential story” collection. while there were so many beautiful garments in the french brand’s latest drop, the delicate and feminine features of the charlotte instantly spoke to me. after posting a photo of it on my instagram stories, i had several people send me messages corroborating how “shawna” it felt. that was all the confirmation i needed.

when it arrived, the fabric was thinner than i originally expected, but as we hopefully brace ourselves for more consistent warmer temperatures, i figured a gauzier fabric might be more versatile at this precipice of seasons. there is so much to love when it comes to this piece -the scalloped detail, the lattice-work on the bodice, the slightly ballooned sleeves, the flattering v-neck silhouette. it’s sexy while still being sweet, the perfect combination for this mom who still wants to feel like she’s got it going on somethings, ya know?! the buttons are functional, so it’s nursing friendly(!) and while i love it worn more like a top versus an open cardigan, i do think it looks really cute with the bottom buttons unbuttoned. you can unbutton as many as you’d like to create a more sassier look. girl, let those abs breathe! in terms of sizing, i went with my true size and it fits close to the body as i believe it’s intended. if you’re looking to wear it over a tank or dress, i’d consider sizing up one size.
i know it’s only the beginning of february but i’m desperately craving spring so i decided to keep the keep the color palette light and neutral by pairing the cardigan with my newest pair of horseshoe jeans in the dorian wash. they’re a perfect light khaki shade and will no doubt be my go-to warmer weather pant. i finished off the ensemble with my favorite woven mules.
a big thank you to sezane for gifting me such a gorgeous piece that will live happily in my wardrobe for years to come.
