as i mentioned in a previous it’s friday i’m in love post, upon turning the big 3-0, i recently added a few new products into my skincare routine. two of them have really won me over –yu-be moisturizer and la roche-posay’s tinted sunscreenso in the off chance that you, too are looking to spruce up your own beauty regimen, i thought i’d at least share my experiences thus far.

yu-be

yu-be moisturizing skin cream. growing up i had problematic skin -think oily, acne-prone, overall blah. it has only been in the last five years or so that i’ve seem to have found favor with the epidermal gods and in doing so, i’ve done everything in my power to maintain the status quo. this means babying my skin the best i can with regular facials, a good cleanser prescribed for sensitive skin, a kelp-based on-the-spot treatment for the occasional chin blemish (hello hormones), and now, an all-purpose moisturizer that has been all the rage in japan since its creation in 1957. according to its website, yu-be moisturizing skin cream contains the following skin conditioning ingredients:
-glycerin – “humectant” attracts and retains moisture in the skin
-vitamin e – anti-oxidant
-vitamin b2 – helps to smooth rough skin – also gives yu-be its yellow color
-camphor – refreshing scent fades in minutes
-sodium hyaluronate: humectant helps retain moisture
-concentrated moisturizer helps hydrate and soothe dry skin
-helps smooth rough, dry skin on hands, elbows, knees and feet
-non-greasy formula absorbs quickly and lasts
-contains no artificial colors, fragrances or spf

being so highly concentrated, a little goes a long way, otherwise you’ll be wiping the excess off with a towel. and i’ll be honest, the presence of camphor gives the product a scent a little reminiscent of carmex lip balm (which personally is not my favorite), but once absorbed the skin, the odor quickly fades. a 2.2 ounce jar will set you back about $25, but the supply should last you a number of months since seeing as you’ll use just a dime-sized amount every time. plus, the petite portion is perfect for traveling as it is below the 4 ounce limit.

La-Roche-Posay-313

la roche-posay’s anthelios 50 mineral tinted sunscreen. with so many foundations, bb creams, and powders now pulling double duty -offering a level of spf within the product’s formula, it seems silly to reach for a sunscreen at all. but if i’ve learned anything in my 30 years on earth, it’s that you can never be too protected when it comes to the sun’s damaging uv rays. with that said, this particular brand makes applying the extra layer of defense effortless with a light-weight formula that leaves your skin both dewy and slightly bronzed. to give my skin a break, i tend to you make-up free on the weekends. last weekend, the only thing i slathered on before S and i ran around town doing errands was this tinted sunscreen. throughout the day, i would catch glimpses of myself in the mirror and be surprised how glowy and refreshed i appeared despite the absence of mascara, eyeliner, and blush. if that’s not a winning endorsement, i don’t know what is. like yu-be’s product, a 1.7 ounce container is an investment at $33.50, but it’s a small price to pay to ward off the damaging effects of sun exposure.

so that’s my two cents on skincare and the pair of products i’m loving right now. apparently you turn 30 and you feel the need to talk about this kind of stuff. but whatever it takes to keep people thinking i’m still in college, right?
