between travelling, teaching, and finishing up my article for darling (thank you SO much for all of the love!) last week, style posts have unfortunately fallen by the wayside. however, if you’re a subscriber to my style instagram handle (@stylebyshawnaleeann), you know i always have time for a quick morning selfie on my way out to work. so until a freer schedule this weekend allows for a few more fashion photo shoots (with a fancy camera and an even fancier photographer), i’m sharing my looks from last week via my iPhone. enjoy!

as i’ve mentioned before, mondays are the new fridays as it pertains to office casual. though i’d love to interpret “office casual” to mean “pajama pants,” i know at the end of the day, i still need to look presentable in the off-chance a member should stop by my office to chat. despite it being october, traditional fall temperatures (traditional for san diego, at least) are nowhere to be found. so i feigned fall by bringing my favorite brown boots out of winter hibernation and pairing them with this casual striped dress.

striped anchor dress | j.crew (old, similar)
brown leather boots | steve madden ‘intyce’

this was my second attempt at tricking the weather into being colder than it was. lucky for me, it’s 30 below in my office, so wearing autumn-appropriate apparel (i love alliterations so much) isn’t so crazy as it is practical to stay warm. if you haven’t heard, plaid is all the rage this season which seems redundant because isn’t it always the rage this time of year? regardless, i added this linen mini to my collection two years ago and it continues to be one of my favorite pieces in my cold-weather wardrobe. i finished off the look with two punches of color –one on my lips (bareminerals “risk it all”) and one on my toes (cobalt suede pumps).

outfit details:

peter pan collar blouse | j.crew factory (similar)
plaid linen mini skirt | j.crew factory (similar)
black tights | target
blue suede shoes | h&m (old, similar)
lipstick | bareminerals “risk it all”

another day, another pair of boots, and another attempt at marrying the hot temperatures with the aesthetics of fall. this emerald silk blouse is one of my favorite ways to transition some of my more “summery” pieces. you may remember seeing this floral skirt on repeat last season, but paired with calf-high boots, it takes on a whole new identity. speaking of these boots, these were my very first big-girl purchase right out of college. they are by the frye company and if you know anything about that brand, you know these weren’t cheap! but what frye prides themselves in is the quality of their products and now nearly a decade later, i swear i could still pass these babies off as brand new.

green silk blouse | j.crew factory (similar)
floral skirt | anthropologie (old)
brown leather boots | the frye company

one may assume i have a kardashian-sized closet given how infrequently i seem to repeat outfits, but i assure you, i probably have fewer clothes than you think. the key to making your pieces go the extra mile is to continually mix and match them for a whole new look. the day i wore this outfit, i was asked twice if my skirt was new. au contraire, mon ami. this hydrangea-clad tiered number was a find on the anthropologie sales rack some four (five?) years ago. instead of pairing it with a short-sleeved blouse, tights, and pumps, i nixed the leg wear, traded short-sleeves for long, and had one last fling with my lace-up espadrille wedges. voila, what’s old has become new.

outfit details:

black long-sleeve tee | gap
tiered hydrangea skirt | anthropologie (old)
lace-up espadrille wedges | loft (old, similar)

finally friday. i decided to give my piggies a break on the last workday of the week and opted for flats instead. i can’t help but feel maxi dresses were made to be worn with a low (or no) heeled shoe. am i alone in that? either way, i figured friday was as good of a time as any to add a little leopard into my routine.

outfit details:

maxi dress | anthropologie (old)
leopard d’orsay flats | j.crew factory

in reviewing the outfits all together, i was very simplistic with my accessories this week. probably because my favorite accessory as of late is not jewelry but rather, mermaid hair. the curling wand continues to be my new best friend and i’m rather liking life on the curly side.

that concludes another week of work wears! more to come!

Great outfits… all of them. But your hair… oodles of gorgeous curls. Your mane was the main focal point… you’re lovely (and you have such a genuine smile).
