weekly outfits || 8/3/15 – 8/7/15

lately i’ve been missing the personal fashion aspect of my blog. as self-indulgent as it is, i’ve missed sharing my daily outfits here. i had made a personal pact to refrain from as many mirror selfies as possible since regularly employing S’s fancy canon, but since the last thing i want to do is put on a pencil skirt when we find ourselves with actual free time after work or on a weekend, my fashion posts have fallen by the way side. so in an effort to dip my toe back in the styling pond, i figured i might share my work outfits for the week via my style instagram feed (@stylebyshawnaleeann).

let’s just say it was a big week for the side braid. to be honest though, in the midst of this hot summer and with my hair nearly reaching the small of my back (when did it get this long?), the side braid has been on heavy rotation for a while now. one day i’ll learn to blow dry again. but until then, my co-workers will think i’ve forgotten how to groom.

more style posts to come! as always, thanks for reading.

on wednesdays, mondays we wear pink. also on mondays, we are more casual. since the club is closed to our members on the first workday of the week, my colleagues and i are able to “relax” our dress code just a schosh. since denim is still off the table, i am always on the search for more casual pieces that are still office appropriate. this skirt definitely fits the bill. and not only that, it’s the perfect shade of shocking pink!

outfit details:

ruffle sleeve tee | gap (similar)
pink skirt | j.crew factory
gold skinny belt | gap (similar)
tan flats | madewell (last year, this season’s version)

this might be my favorite overall look for the week. try as i might, i don’t think i’ll ever be considered “boho” but this is my best attempt to make boho fit into my everyday style. i’ve started pairing my booties with my work looks more often and i’ve been really pleased with the result. aside from the shoes, this entire ensemble is from madewell which is pretty indicative of my entire wardrobe these days.

outfit details:

peach silk blouse | madewell (last spring, similar option)
eyelet skirt | madewell
brown booties | ecote via urban outfitters (old, similar style)

this day the hair went all the way up in a make-shift chignon. i feel like in certain angles it was a bit martha washington, but for someone who never wears her hair up, i am growing more accostomed to having it off my face. the classic black and white combination is an easy go-to when i’m struggling to find something to wear. and for being an anthropologie sale item last year, this polka dot blouse has become one of my most-worn staples.

outfit details:

polka dot blouse | anthropologie (similar)
black skirt | madewell (similar)
black espadrilles | loft (similar)

while i love me some color, neutrals make everything so easy. i had an early morning meeting which required me to be out of the house before even the dj’s come on the radio in the morning (see also: before 6 a.m.), so that meant figuring out what i was going to wear quickly! as soon as i pulled the lace top and eyelet skirt from my closet, the rest just kind of fell into place. regardless if it defies the laws of fashion, i love mixing black and brown. there are a whole lot of textures going on here, but i think they all came together well to create an easy breezy covergirl, summer ensemble.

outfit details:

les fleurs lace top | anthropologie
eyelet skirt | madewell (almost identical)
grey tank (worn beneath lace top) | h&m
brown braided belt | h&m (similar)
crisscross frida sandal | madewell

the are few occurrences when i bust out my adult tutu but friday seemed like as good as any to do just that. though i’m probably erring on the side of appearing too “bridal,” i decided to pair my tulle skirt with a similar shade of ivory. i finished off with nude heels and a metallic belt and of course, another side braid and i’ll have to admit, i feel kind of like a pretty princess in this outfit. it’s definitely a combination that deserves a repeat performance.

outfit details

white bib-front blouse | madewell (similar)
tulle skirt | anthropologie (almost identical)
gold skinny belt | gap (similar)
nude peep-toe pumps | seychelles (similar style)

and there you have it folks, one week in my closet. as you can see, i may be single-handedly keeping both anthropologie and madewell in business these days. #sorryimnotsorry

i hope to have a few more outfit posts soon -featuring my new floral romper and my new denim dress! in the meantime, stay stylish (and cool, it’s seriously hot today!).

mad love and adult tutus,

xoxo
