with spring right around the corner, i’ve been doing a little “spring cleaning” to my closet -donating items that get infrequent wear, dropping off ill-fitting items at the tailor, and taking inventory of pieces i might want to add this year. one area of my wardrobe i’d like to focus on is my denim collection. after stockpiling lycra-laden skinny jeans for the last few years, i’m interested in trying different silhouettes, fabrics, and washes. here are three styles/colors that i’m eyeing right now:
high-waisted straight leg || everywhere i look, someone is wearing a pair of levi’s wedgie jeans. i first spotted them on kate of the fancy pants report, then most recently shannon of itsy bitsy indulgences also modeled a pair on her site. what makes them different than the skinny jeans i own is the fact that they’re made from traditional structured denim fabric, making them perfect for hugging your curves and showing off your silhouette. i personally love the ankle length -great for showing off a great pair of lace-up flats or sandals -as well as the lighter wash especially as we move into the warmer months. besides the wedgie (i giggle every time), i’m also considering madewell’s perfect summer jean and abercrombie’s high-rise ankle straight jeans.
white skinny jeans || ah, the elusive white jean. if jean shopping wasn’t already hard enough, finding a white version of your favorite skinny jeans adds a whole other level of difficulty. most often the styles aren’t opaque enough to shield the world from every lump and bump of my lady bits. i want my white jeans to be tight but not too tight and basically flatter my bod just as much as my favorite blue pair. is that too much to ask? apparently so considering i have yet to find the perfect pair. julia of gal meets glam has been sporting everlane’s cropped mid-waisted version which look great on her (but what doesn’t?) and come highly recommended by fellow everlane customers. i’d probably opt for the high-rise style instead but i’m very intrigued, mostly by the $68 price tag. another option i’m considering is madewell’s 10″ high-rise skinny crop jeans with the button-front closure. having become obsessed with this dark denim version, i have high hopes for their white counterpart. there’s just something about the button-front detail that makes them feel fresh yet retro at the same time.
cali demi-boot jeans || raise your hand if you owned a pair of boot cut jeans in middle or high school (extra points if they were by the brand 7 for all mankind)! well a version of the boot cut is BACK (along with many other 90’s trends -cough, chokers, cough). thankfully it’s an updated style with a little edge to keep it fresh and more 2018. madewell released three versions of their cali demi-boot silhouette -and i’m really into the black version with -shocker -the button-fly. the ripped hem gives it a little character and the subtle flare makes it perfect for pairing with both heels and flats –something that a regular boot cut could never do ;).
